Director of Operations

Get in on the ground floor at one of the top startups on the East Coast! Shelf, a venture-backed knowledge management automation & AI technology company, is looking for its first Director of Operations to join our fast growing organization. This position will be responsible for a range of strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations across facets of HR, Legal, Finance, Procurement, Business Development & Organizational Strategy and Office Planning & Logistics

This will be a highly visible and critical role, reporting directly to the CEO, and will work closely with other members of the leadership team to help grow Shelf from our recent $50M B-round to C, D, IPO, and beyond!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with executive management in the development and tracking of strategic goals and operational plans, ensuring the appropriate objectives and key results (OKRs) are identified and met
  • Oversee and manage cross-functional projects to ensure successful completion and alignment with organizational goals
  • Monitor key metrics and analyze and improve processes across the organization to maximize operational efficiencies, increase productivity, and minimize costs
  • Partner with department leads in developing financial and budgetary plans
  • Manage vendor and partner relationships, including legal contract reviews and negotiations
  • Ensure the protection, tracking, and timely filing of intellectual property
  • Uphold the organization's policies and standards, and ensure compliance with legislative regulations

Desired Experience:

  • An entrepreneurial background with cross-departmental experience in early-stage VC-backed growth companies
  • Strong communication skills and high emotional intelligence with ability to understand and navigate across organizations cross-departmentally as well as vertically
  • Proven ability to plan and manage operational processes and streamline or implement new structures and roles for maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Experienced in vendor and contract management with excellent negotiation skills
  • Working knowledge of legal and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Strong project management and analytics skills

Knowledge / Experience in the following areas a plus:

  • Strong technical knowhow (e.g. tech stack management, documentation tools, InfoSec, IT, computer acquisition, triage, and systems access)
  • Experienced with filing patents and managing Intellectual Property
  • Office setup and logistics
  • Fundraising and corporate governance
  • Cap table management
  • Strong financial acumen
  • Law degree
