We are seeking a skilled, highly motivated and driven Director of People & Culture to join our organization. In order to succeed in this position, the ideal candidate will have previous HR experience, as well as an extensive understanding of HR policy and procedure. As a trustworthy leader, the HR Director will provide support and guidance to the Corporate HR and Leadership teams ensuring best business practices are maintained. It is important that the candidate contributes both on the ground and on a strategic level in order to cultivate an amazing and innovative culture. Success in this role will require influential partnership with middle and senior management within the organization to execute the HR strategies that foster organizational and people effectiveness. The dynamic nature of this organization requires a leader who has a great ability to connect with people. It is also important that the right applicant is detail-oriented and adaptive.

What you'll do:

  • Managing HR operations on a day-to-day basis for corporate functions, providing input on problem solving, consistency, fairness, and/or action planning, including strategic planning and visioning.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the employee life cycle, including onboarding, promotions, job changes, leaves of absence, relocations, immigration/visas, off-boarding and exit process.
  • Work with Talent Acquisition to drive recruitment and align on wider HR Strategies.
  • Provide guidance and advice on employee relations issues, HR policy and practice, and legal risk. Understands the business and creates HR strategies to align with business goals.
  • Facilitates team building, strategic meetings, and planning sessions.
  • Ensures compliance with and highlights to wider team relevance of any legal or regulatory changes pertaining to labor, wage and hour, and employment laws, including manager communication/training.
  • Keep scale in mind when developing and recommending human resource programs, policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Develop and manage the performance development process with clear goals, feedback and development paths.
  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching that enables leaders to make sound decisions and promote employee engagement and positive employee relations.
  • There will be a number of projects to develop or take ownership of including talent management and succession planning, cultural engagement, Talent Development, DEI, Reward, HR Services.
  • Design and maintain an effective employee engagement strategy to motivate the workforce, reward performance and retain employees of a largely remote workforce.
  • Ensure that the HR department is periodically audited for compliance and that all HR processes are well-documented and maintained.
  • Lead the development of partnering relationships with senior executives, building professional credibility and mutual trust, and ensuring that internal clients have access to high-quality advice and direction to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
  • Partner with the Finance Department to ensure accurate and timely payroll functions not limited to: bonuses, relocation allowances, and general compensation.

What you need to be successful:

  • 10+ years in a HR Generalist/ 5+ years HR Business Partner role with a wide range of functional experience. Experience in a startup is preferred.
  • BS/BA with emphasis in HR is preferred
  • PHR/SPHR or SHRM certification desired
  • Adaptability to fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous environments while functioning independently with minimal supervision.
  • An understanding of labor laws, employee relations, compensation, benefits administration, and general employment issues, particularly in California.
  • You can manage relationships with clients and internal partners by building and nurturing relationships based on trust.
  • Having the confidence to express opposing viewpoints that are beneficial to all parties.
  • A sense of urgency for anticipating/solving problems, the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time.
