A Master’s degree and at least 3-5 years of experience (or relevant undergraduate degree and 7-10 or more years of relevant experience) in one of the following fields: journalism, public policy, public administration, city & regional planning, architecture/urban design, or other, related urban policy field.
The person in this position must have the ability to express ideas clearly in writing; use data and research to tell stories for broad audiences; speak effectively in public; maintain good interpersonal relationships with diverse groups of people; and exercise judgment and discretion in applying and interpreting policies and procedures. They must have past experience with online communications and in using social media to connect with potential readers of online content. They must have a track record of print and/or online content that demonstrates their ability to translate complex issues to general audiences.
The person in this position must demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and consensus-building, with a demonstrated ability to partner and lead through influence, within and across organizational lines.
This job involves a considerable amount of contact with other Institute professional staff, UNC Charlotte faculty and administrative staff, students, public and private sector agency staff, and the general public. The person in this job must have superb interpersonal skills (including oral and written communication) and be able to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel. This job is highly visible to the University and the general public.
