Overview


The Director of University Partnerships is responsible for entering into IHE partnerships and developing programs that will provide various pathways into education. The Director of University Partnerships will search, strategize, and implement specialty programs that provide for continued education and credentialing through partnership with various universities. This role serves as the connector between City Teaching Alliance and the post-secondary institutions with which they partner. Integral to this role is a spirit of entrepreneurship, strategic planning, project management, and operational oversight. Foundational to this role is the belief and understanding of equity by design. The Director of University Partnerships will place a special emphasis on developing partnership programs that will attract and support BIPOC teacher candidates at the undergraduate and graduate levels.


Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


American University SOE Partnership

  • Oversee the high-level execution of the City Teaching Alliance program in conjunction with American University SOE, AU/UT Memorandum of Agreement signed September 2021, and the AU Protocols and Procedures Manual.
  • Ensure physical presence for each site and ongoing program compliance with district and state regulatory agencies in accordance with the AU Provost Office
  • Support the City Teaching Alliance Chief Academic Officer in the continued operation of the City Teaching Alliance coursework at American University.
  • Serve as the counterpart to the AU Program Liaison to coordinate Steering and Content Committee Meetings with AU and UT.
  • Serve as the counterpart to the AU Program Liaison to arrange and prepare documents or deliverables that promote the integration of the AU/UT programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between American University SOE and key teams at City Teaching Alliance, including marketing and communications, academics and coaching, recruitment, policy, program and evaluation, finance, student support services, human resources, and site teams.
  • Coordinate City Teaching Alliance’s involvement with broader SOE initiatives (e.g. antiracist professional development, anti-racist curricular development, etc.) for faculty and site team personnel where appropriate.
  • Facilitate program evaluation/data review and accreditation tasks associated with the City Teaching Alliance Program.
  • Work with City Teaching Alliance legal counsel to manage program implementation challenges when needed.
  • Report about partnership to larger stakeholders.
  • Participate in on-going meetings at City Teaching Alliance and American University SOE.
  • Problem-solve other implementation concerns when needed

Develop New Partnership Programs

  • Work with the Chief Academic Officer to craft a vision for university programming and diverse pathways into education and beyond. Pathways include, but are not limited to, undergraduate programs, graduate programs, and programs at historically black colleges and universities.
  • Communicate and negotiate with stakeholders at undergraduate and graduate universities to assess partnership feasibility and implement desired programs.
  • Manage the contractual process between City Teaching Alliance and partner institutions until a Memorandum of Agreement is fully executed.
  • Work with City Teaching Alliance legal counsel to manage program implementation challenges when needed.
  • Implement transition teams and workgroups to support the rollout of the program. Teams include but are not limited to communications, performance and evaluation, recruitment, policy, development, curriculum and professional development, and site teams.
  • Serve as a liaison between university staff and City Teaching Alliance staff.
  • Evaluate the program through the use of informal and formal feedback and survey tools.
  • Ensure program compliance with district and state regulatory agencies.
  • Reporting about partnership to larger stakeholders.
  • Participate in on-going meetings at City Teaching Alliance and designated university.
  • Problem-solve other implementation concerns when needed.


Ongoing Responsibilities


  • Lead bi-weekly Operations Team meeting with Program Liaison, Assistant Dean for Academic Instruction (AU), Recruitment Director (UT), Admissions Director (UT), Director of Participant Finances (UT).
  • Participate in weekly check-ins with the AU Program Liaison, or as needed.
  • Engage in on-going check-ins with the Directors of Clinical Faculty at AU/UT Leadership Meeting.
  • Participate in the monthly Program Design meetings with City Teaching Alliance staff including, but not limited to, site Executive Directors.
  • Engage in monthly communication with site teams regarding; onboarding requirements, support services, or other AU protocols that will affect students.
  • Participate in on-going meetings with key department leads - Executive Directors of Curriculum & Professional Development and Performance & Evaluation, Vice Presidents of Marketing & Communications, Recruitment & Selection and Development, and the chief team.
  • Lead the coordination and approval of coursework space.
  • Lead the semester coursework preparation including ordering books for students.
  • Facilitate Summer Institute planning including orientation coordination with AU.
  • Participation in all staff meetings and retreats.

Target Start Date: June 2023


Location:
Remote (with strong preference to candidates in Baltimore/DC metro areas)


Compensation:
$102,109 & is subject to a geographic differential which could increase or decrease it by 4% or 8% depending on city of residence. We are an anti-racist organization that prioritizes equity so we do not negotiate salaries.


Qualifications

We are seeking highly-driven individuals who can thrive in a fast-paced urban setting. Successful candidates will have a deep belief in City Teaching Alliance's mission and also have the following skills and qualifications:


  • Master’s degree or higher
  • Strong organizational, time management, and writing skills.
  • PK – 12 and/or IHE experience preferred.
  • Able to manage through managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity.
  • Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.
  • Be a good steward of financial and human resources and advocate for what it takes for the work to be successful.
  • Foster an inclusive, positive, and equitable culture.
  • Model all of our values, especially “anti-racism” and “value each other."
