We are seeking a Director of Product Design to joins our team and help build the future of Nerf. Reporting to the VP of Product Development, you will lead the visioning, innovation, and design development outcome of multiple product lines, working alongside a diverse group of innovators in Marketing, Engineering, Design, Brand Creative, Consumer Research, and Project Management. We are looking for a creative leader possessing the experience and capabilities to build and deliver exciting new play experiences for the Nerf consumer.

You will be operating in one of the hottest categories in the industry! Applying your knowledge of the toy industry and consumer product design, you will mine consumer insights across numerous consumer profiles, with the goal of growing Nerf’s product portfolio to include multiple new age groups and new product categories. You'll work alongside key members of the team to conduct concept exploration and refinement through tech R&D process and consumer testing. You will work with the Marketing and Project Engineering leads to define the business opportunity and rights size the innovation. Then you will lead all aspects of your team as they work to deliver the product in cost and on time, maintaining the concept vision.


A day in the life of the Director Product Design:

  • Drive the overall product creative and technical design development efforts for each product segment in the Nerf portfolio.
  • Lead a team of outstanding product designers, coordinating work assignments, developing talent, and facilitate career growth.
  • Identify and explore hot new trends, framing the opportunity and gaining team alignment.
  • Partner with marketing, consumer research and engineering teams to build innovative, robust, consumer-centric active play experiences.
  • Interpret field research to gain an understanding of target user/consumer lifestyle and address consumer needs and preferences.
  • Coordinate and lead product review meetings and present materials to all levels of management.
  • Manage budget, prioritizing projects and team resources effectively
  • Participate as core member of Innovation Pipeline Council, leading the visioning, planning and implementation alongside Engineering R&D and Marketing leaders.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design, Toy Design, or related field required
  • 10+ years of team leadership experience in a creative environment
  • A deep understanding of market trends and consumer insight gathering.
  • Proficiency in product development principles and processes.
  • Solid understanding of materials, mechanism design, and manufacturing processes.
