Director, Site Reliability (YB Managed) - job 1 of 2

As the Director of Site Reliability, you will be responsible for the team that ensures the YBDB Managed DBaaS is robust, secure, and never goes down. You will design and build processes that implement the infrastructure for software that spins up databases, backs them up, restores them, manages and automates alerting systems, observability systems, billing systems and a lot more. You will evaluate and audit our network design with an emphasis on security and will be the point of contact for security exposures and vulnerabilities in the cloud and software infrastructure. You will work with our security team to guarantee processes for SOC2, GDPR, and other certifications. You will be using, operating, and configuring Kubernetes environments (GKE, EKS, AKS), Java frameworks, Shell scripts, Python scripts, Terraform templates and many other cloud technologies. Your team will be global with on-call schedules from engineers across the globe.

Role and Responsibilities

• Hire, mentor, teach, lead, and organize a team of smart, hard working, independent SREs around the world.
• Lead the team to use new technologies, and lead adoption of these technologies using cost effective ways to adopt SaaS platforms that make our team execute more efficiently, safely and cost effectively.
• Design, develop, test, debug and maintain components of the cloud infrastructure
• Manage operational priorities of the DBaaS
• Establish process for handling and leading response to security new vulnerabilitiesLead certification efforts from the security perspective
• Participate in penetration testing efforts
• Design and build DBaaS processes for key management, rotation storage, encryption, and password management

Required Experience

• Strong software design and implementation skills in building infrastructure frameworks
• Experience building and operating extensible, scalable resilient data systems
• Working knowledge of Java and Python
• Experience using public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
• Containerization tooling (Docker, EKS, Kubernetes)
• Infrastructure as Code Tooling (Example: Terraform, Cloudformation, Etc.)
• Configuration Management Tooling (Ansible, Chef, Etc.)
• Automation Scripting (Python or Go preferred)
• Solid understanding of basic systems operations (disk, network etc)
• Willingness and ability to learn new languages and concepts

We feel strongly about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one way to help achieve that. The cash compensation for this role is market competitive, with a range of $220,000-$275,000, as well as equity (when applicable), and benefits including health plans, retirement plans, and unlimited paid time off (PTO). Some roles include variable/incentive compensation, or a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. The pay range for this position is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The actual pay will vary based on factors including experience, qualifications, skill level.
