The Director of Finance will play a key role in helping the beverage industry's leading venture-stage firms build their businesses by providing in-depth financial and analytical guidance. This person will operate with a high level of independence and play a leadership role within the Propeller service team. For a senior finance professional looking for long-term job stability and a CFO-track position; this is an excellent opportunity to learn the complexities and interdependencies of early-stage, high-growth companies.


Propeller’s Beverage team has been a partner to some of the top emerging consumer brands of the last decade. Current and alumni beverage clients include: Flying Embers, Be Mixed, Local Roots, Mighty Swell, Pampelonne, McTavish Brands, Calidad Beer, DRNXMYTH, Barrel Brothers Brewing, SaltPoint Beverage, Hoplark HopTea and more -- helping the founders and investors build and scale their businesses. 


Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Deep understanding of the workings of the beverage industry including but not limited to: on & off-premise sales channels, self-fermented/distilled processes & co-packers, distributor networks, sales promotion strategies, etc. 
  • Solid experience in firms’ business operations and ability to set up systems and processes to ensure firm-wide controls 
  • Oversee financial planning/analysis, cash resource management & budgeting 
  • Create financial models & provide ad-hoc financial analysis 
  • Oversee client relationship management and board reporting 
  • Draft management discussion and analysis reports 


Qualifications and Capabilities:


  • BA in accounting or finance or economics
  • 8+ years of accounting and financial experience
  • Familiar with the production process, Production & Loss metrics (beer bbls, wine & proof gallons, keg sizing, case equivalents (CE’s) and distributor billbacks)
  • Familiarity with industry-specific KPIs (Gross Margin, Contribution Margin, Product Margins by SKU or packaging type, GM by Channel, Days of Inventory on Hand, Revenue per CEs, keg cycle time, machine downtime)
  • Strong working knowledge of inventory, inventory management systems (Ekos, OBeer, Crafted ERP, Barrel ERP, SOS) and complex inventory reconciliations
