Come join the Ithaca College Dining Services Team as a Dish Machine Operator providing clean & sanitized dishes for the Ithaca College Community. This position offers day or evening shift opportunities and include summers off! This position is considered to be essential.
The Dish Machine Operator is responsible and accountable for ensuring the cleanliness and sanitization of dishes, tableware, glassware, pots, pans, and utensils through manual and machine cleaning methods. Additionally, dishwashers are expected to keep dishwashing areas clean and safe. This is a 40-hour, 42-week position. The position is considered to be essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work.
Supervision:
This position reports to the Supervisor and Lead Supervisor of Utility and Dish Room Operations for daily business operations and the Manager of Utility and Dish Room Operations for all administrative business operations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Scrape, rinse, and load dishes and utensils into dish machine.
- Wash and sanitize all pans, utensils, and dishes.
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain dish machine.
- Unload dishes and utensils from dish machine and organize them properly.
- Manually wash pots and equipment that cannot be run through dish machine.
- Empty trash containers regularly.
- Sweep, mop, and remove trash, recycling, and compost from all unit areas as needed and during assigned times.
- Service unit dining rooms. Aid in cleaning and sanitizing tables and chairs as needed throughout meal periods.
- Clean and sanitize high touchpoints in the dining room, front-of-house, and back-of-house.
- Perform additional cleaning duties as requested.
- Operate a baler.
- Communicate often, clearly, and professionally with co-works and management.
- Greet guests with a warm, friendly demeanor.
- Provide exceptional customer service for all guests.
- Uphold all required safety, service, and hygiene protocols and adjust practices to meet College and state regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent and previous work history.
- Ability to adhere to all food preparation and service standards set by Ithaca College Dining Services staff.
- Capacity to lift a minimum of 50 lbs., reach overhead, bend, stand for long periods of time, squat, and perform repetitive motions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and some holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous dish room experience.
- Knowledge of proper sanitation, HACCP procedures, basic food handling and safety.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to provide excellent customer service while working effectively and respectfully within a diverse and inclusive environment.
Work Environment:
The Dish Machine Operator completes work within an accessible, safe, indoor, and occasional outdoor environment. Long periods of walking, standing, bending, and carrying moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary. Employees will be issued and/or required to wear slip-resistant shoes.
