Job Purpose:
We are seeking a Lead DevSecOps / Azure DevOps / OpenShift Engineer to support large-scale initiatives within the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This position plays a critical role in the development, deployment, and maintenance of secure and scalable applications using cloud-native technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in DevSecOps practices and deep expertise in OpenShift/Kubernetes, Azure DevOps, and automation.
This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to design robust CI/CD pipelines, automate deployments, manage containerized applications, and support development teams with infrastructure and security best practices. The engineer will also provide guidance and mentorship to drive DevOps maturity and platform alignment across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement Azure DevOps (ADO) solutions, including work item tracking, Git repositories, branching strategies, pipelines, and wikis.
- Automate CI/CD processes across Red Hat OpenShift, Linux, Windows, SQL Server, and Oracle environments.
- Develop ADO build and release pipelines for legacy and modern Java/.NET applications, integrating with middleware such as Apache Tomcat, JBoss, and various databases.
- Author and maintain technical documentation for automation processes and workflows.
- Provide technical expertise in Red Hat OpenShift 4.x, including troubleshooting, application deployment, and CRD configurations.
- Create and manage Docker and S2I images, convert between formats, and define deployment manifests (e.g., StatefulSets).
- Build and maintain Helm charts, manage container orchestration on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
- Manage Docker image repositories (e.g., Quay) and container lifecycle operations.
- Oversee deployment, upgrade, and support activities across platforms with cross-functional teams.
- Administer and optimize Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana), including performance tuning and index management.
- Configure Logstash pipelines and use Grok for log parsing; manage Filebeat and Heartbeat agents.
- Integrate quality and security tools (e.g., SonarQube, Coverity, Black Duck) with ADO pipelines and pull request workflows.
- Script and automate tasks using Bash, KornShell (.ksh), Python.
- Troubleshoot and analyze Java application errors.
- Implement secure networking (SSL, TCP/IP), directory services (LDAP), and related protocols.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience with OpenShift/Kubernetes environments.
- 8+ years of experience in Linux shell scripting.
- 5+ years in application containerization and management.
- Proficient in DevSecOps principles, infrastructure as code, and automation scripting.
- Deep knowledge and hands-on experience in the following tools and technologies:
- Red Hat OpenShift
- Azure DevOps (ADO)
- Elastic Stack (ELK)
- Docker / S2I
- SonarQube / Coverity / Black Duck
- Linux / Bash / Shell / Python
- NGINX / WebSphere / LDAP
