The Senior Cost Accountant is a key member of Driscoll’s US Controllership team. They combine costing expertise and business acumen to properly account for some of Driscoll’s most mission critical financial transactions, including fruit and packaging. The Cost Accountant performs accounting and cost accounting duties of a complex nature requiring professional experience and knowledge of accounting principles. Actively participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of cost accounting and inventory management systems, to accurately report the costs of the company’s fruit, packaging products and other services. Responsible for the accuracy, integrity and for appropriate controls to be put in place for the inventory system; e.g. master files, system access, policies, processes and sub ledgers. Assist in developing accounting process to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting of fruit and non-fruit inventory related transactions.ResponsibilitiesDaily/Weekly• Responsible to update costing on inventory items on a weekly basis• Monitors inventory quantities, activities and adjustments in multiple locations• Provide weekly validation invoice report to accounts payable for payment approval• Present monthly actual versus budget analytics to help management• Work with third party vendors on cooling services, review fruit volumes and invoices• Work with vendor portal sites to gather information for internal use• Track the movement of inventory through transfers and returns between locations• Create and maintain standard costs on inventory, and maintain data on non-inventory itemsMonth End• Run inventory reports, providing full analysis of data by item, location, and cost• Prepare and enter multiple Journal Entries for month end close• Perform reclassification and accrual research between GL accounts• Complete inventory revaluation analysis for fruit and packaging• Complete fruit cost of goods sold accrual journal entries and supporting validation analysis• Execute service margin related journal entries, validation and financial review process• Prepare excel and other intricate and specialized reports for cost of packaging and cost of fruit• Partner with the Procurement team to provide analysis on costing and profitability by item/SKU #• Provide inventory reserve analysis and proposals for booking reserves on a quarterly basis• Complete account reconciliations of inventory and other accountsOngoing• Create and update standard operating procedures (SOP’s)• Collaborate with other departments such as accounts payable, purchasing, logistics, distribution, etc.• Collaborate with internal IT department and business project managers on new developments• Ability to work with and manipulate large amounts of data• Work with PBC schedules, auditor requests and provide sample data• Contributes to the Business Unit’s people priorities and objectives regarding people leader effectiveness, engaged employees, and enabling others to perform.• Domestic and international travel required up to 10%.• Represents Driscoll’s in an ethical and business-like professional manner in all interactions with growers, co-workers, suppliers, customers and the business community at large.Candidate ProfileRequirements• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (essential)• 5+ years of accounting work experience (essential)• Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)• Experience with Accounting ERP systemPreferred Qualifications & Leadership Competencies• 5+ years of accounting experience with inventory and costing analysis preferred• High level of accuracy in work and strong attention to detail• Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple deadlines daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly• Excel intermediate level skills or advanced preferable• Strong balance sheet experience and T accounts flow• Experience with GL account reconciliations• Experience working with inventory in multiple locations, including movement/transfers between locations• Investigative skills in researching and problem-solving transactions and accounting profile set-up• System implementation experience very helpful but not required• Process improvement experience for reporting, communicating, automating manual processes• Great team player, passionate about cost accounting and be able to work in a busy environment• California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program.• A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.• Cultivates Innovation: Finds, champions, and implements innovations; large or small.• Plans & Aligns: Establishes priorities and desired outcomes and creates plans to achieve them.• Drives Results: Pursues everything with energy, resourcefulness, and the need to achieve desired outcomes.• Collaborates: Works with a variety of colleagues, inside and/or outside of Driscoll’s, seeking win-wins solutions.• Courage: Tackles difficult issues timely with optimism and transparency.Compensation & Benefits:The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range and benefits for the position posted.
