With about 40,000 employees, Duke is the third largest private employer in North Carolina, and it now has international programs in more than 150 countries.Job OverviewThe Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) Digital Media Producer is responsible for creating compelling photography, video, graphic, audio, and online content that highlights OUE offices and resources while also reflecting the diversity and dynamic nature of the undergraduate experience at Duke. OUE includes nearly 14 units focused on delivering academic and enrichment aspects of a transformative undergraduate experience. The individual hired for this role will create content that will support the specific strategic communications goals of OUE divisions and units as well as the overall undergraduate experience.OUE’s Digital Media Producer will produce, organize, and upload content focused on specific programs and resources and around central themes to be featured via websites, social media, newsletters, digital marketing screens, and other university and departmental communications channels. The content will reflect excellence in our services, highlight resources available to students, tell compelling stories about OUE and the undergraduate experience, help advance strategic initiatives, and otherwise benefit the reputation of OUE and Duke University as a whole.Key audiences include undergraduate students, Duke faculty and staff, prospective students, alumni, and friends of Duke. This position will coordinate and collaborate with communicators across Duke, including those in student affairs, central university communications, admissions, alumni affairs and development, and the four undergraduate-focused schools at Duke.Although the OUE marketing and communications team is expected to develop an integrated strategy, approximately a third of the content output will be in service to the Division of Student Success (SS), a third in service to the Division of Intellectual Community (IC), and a third for general OUE and VPUE communications and branding. The Digital Media Producer will be supervised by the OUE Director of Marketing & Communications and will supervise student assistants. This role will have significant interaction with staff members across the Office of Undergraduate Education and provide backup support for the OUE Marketing and Communications team.The Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic and organizational excellence. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply and to identify their strengths in this area.WORK PERFORMEDContent Production (55%)• Capture and produce photographic images and videos (including related graphics and artwork, such as titles and animations) representing the full range of activities occurring across the Office of Undergraduate Education, utilizing creative and artistic skills to advance the reputation of the office, its units, its programs, leadership, and staff.• Produce marketing and communications deliverables in support of broader university-level goals for the Duke undergraduate experience, as directed.• Design flyers, graphics, and posters to market events, programs, and campaigns for OUE and undergraduate strategic initiatives.• Discuss media production needs with departmental and program “clients” to determine needed content and structure; assist in writing program scripts or storyboard development. Preview media with clients as necessary, editing films based on feedback and to meet strategic needs.• Ensure that all platforms follow the OUE’s anti-racist communications guidelines and policies and reflect the OUE’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism.• Collaborate with and direct student photo and video contributors.• Explore opportunities to create podcasts or audio series and assist with podcast/audio production, including coordinating with guests, writing questions and scripts, scheduling interviews, transcribing tape, and editing audio.• Coordinate assigned media projects; supervise production to include scheduling personnel and support; recommend professional services and vendors when needed; direct location shooting, sound recording, editing, and delivery of media for distribution across various communications channels.• Organize and maintain video, photo, and related digital assets in a library/archive based on a logical taxonomy and filing structure; organize, track, and maintain equipment library.• Keep abreast of new trends and creative ways to tell stories using a variety of media.• Maintain inventory of required photography/videography supplies and equipment; evaluate new equipment and techniques for still and motion media application; recommend the purchase of new equipment and supplies; and perform routine maintenance on photographic, sound, and related equipment.Website Maintenance/Creation (20%)• Update, advise on, and review websites across the OUE portfolio.• Maintain relevant storytelling content for and update the Office of Undergraduate Education website as needed.• Occasionally create and maintain standalone WordPress websites.• Measure and evaluate website traffic and navigation patterns to improve design.Social Media (20%)• Create new and package existing content for OUE social media accounts (primarily Instagram).• Implement and upload social media content.• Stay abreast of emerging social media and mobile technologies.Other (5%)• Provide backup support to the OUE Marketing & Communications Director, Assistant Director, and student assistants as needed.• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this classification. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of personnel so classified.In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following qualities/attributes:• Demonstrated experience in photography/videography and/or audio production, including an understanding of cinematography, lighting, sound design, and talent management.• High level of proficiency in video editing, web, and project management software, as well as knowledge of live streaming video and various methods of content delivery.• Demonstrated experience in graphic design.• Strong storytelling skills, including the ability to both see and portray “the big picture” or advance a strategic goal while also paying keen attention to detail.• Excellent coordination and organizational skills that support the ability to work independently, balance competing priorities, and consistently deliver high-quality work, on time and on budget.• Ability to take direction from and provide accurate project reporting to supervisors and OUE leadership.
