Framatome is seeking a Design Engineering to work from Framatome’s office located on Mill Ridge Rd., in Lynchburg, VA. This position is part of Framatome’s Installed Base Outage Services organization. Design engineer will be incorporated into a team of engineers that develop, refurbish, and maintain tooling and equipment used to support BWR and PWR Reactor Services. Additionally, the Design Engineer will support and provide technical expertise for special projects undertaken by both BWR and PWR Reactor Services organizations.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design specialized tooling to be used in PWR and BWR plants, specifically for reactor disassembly/reassembly and fuel movement.
  • Performs non-routine and varied engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field problems.
  • Receives assistance and instructions on unusual or more complex features and possible solutions, as needed
  • Ensures compliance with government, organization and customer engineering standards.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and applies a variety of technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Develops new or adapted products, methods, systems, or models to provide added value solutions to customers.
  • Researches and assesses best practices, proposing methods and improvements.
  • Works on special projects, as directed.

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Technology plus 0 -2 years of engineering experience. In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 year engineering degree

  • Strong technical problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills

The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:

  • Previous internship/co-op experience in field of study
  • Good knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques, and practices.
  • Good communication skills
  • Good analytical ability and problem identification/problem resolution skills
  • Background in the development of field tooling, including underwater tooling applications.
  • Ability to develop cost effective, simple, yet robust, field deployable tooling.
  • Experience working with SolidWorks and/or SmarTam applications.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
  • Knowledge of generic, primary side, commercial nuclear disassembly and reassembly activities.
  • Experience working in the commercial nuclear environment.

Our total rewards package

The range of base salary for the position is between $61,000 - $79,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
