Eaton Corporation is seeking an Employment Counsel to join our team. The position is a hybrid work model and is based at Eaton’s Beachwood, OH location. Relocation assistance within hiring country is offered for this role.Position Overview:The Employment Counsel – U.S. serves as an important resource on employment law issues in the legal function to other lawyers, to the business - especially the Business Counsel in their day to day provision of counsel and advice, and to the Human Resources team. This position will report directly into the VP of Employee and Labor Relations (HR). The Employment Counsel will provide pragmatic employment law advice in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.This position will serve as a subject matter expert in all areas of federal and state employment laws. Responsibilities include providing timely and practical legal advice on a variety of employment law issues including hiring, performance management, disciplinary action, terminations, discrimination, harassment, internal investigations, contingent worker issues, reasonable accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour compliance, non-competes and non-solicitations, and general employee risk management.The Employment Counsel will work closely with the Commercial Business Counsel and Human Resources, and will coordinate and supervise responses to administrative charges, demand letters, and other potential disputes through negotiation or mediation.A substantial part of responsibilities involves reviewing and responding to regulatory actions, including EEOC/ERD actions, and managing outside counsel on these and other employment issues. This role will also provide advice on legal compliance issues impacting employees (e.g., OFCCP, I-9s, disability, FLSA, FMLA, FCPA, etc.) and assist as needed in developing strategic plans for employment-related matters, including but not limited to, policies, procedures, litigation and pre-litigation matters.This strategic leadership role will work closely with others to bring a single scope of perspective across our multiple businesses and will be positioned to pro-actively spot geographic and site trends and share lessons learned with key stakeholders.Qualifications:Required Qualifications:• Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution• Minimum five (5) years experience post-J.D. in employment law in a corporate role and/or law firm with an emphasis on administrative proceedings (state and federal) or equivalent experience• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship both now and in the futurePreferred Qualifications:• Admitted to a state bar• Experience and skill in project management• Bi-lingual (fluent in Spanish)Position Success Criteria:• Must have strong interpersonal skills and be an excellent verbal and written communicator for all levels of the company.• Strategic thinking; strong drive for results; political savvy• Strong managerial courage• Ethical with a high degree of personal integrity• Ability to leverage resources and lead teams without direct reporting authority• Highly accountable; transparentAt Eaton, we strive to provide compensation and benefits that attract, engage, and retain the best talent.
