The Marcy Lab School, Senior Director of Recruitment and Admissions

ORGANIZATION

The Marcy Lab School was founded because its Co-Founders saw room for innovation. They saw the lack of affordable, high-quality post-secondary education opportunities, especially for young people from underserved communities. Despite the sector's immense growth, they also saw the lack of representation in the tech industry and within its talent pipeline. They wanted to connect all of the wildly talented young people who needed a more promising ROI than traditional college to all of the opportunities in the tech sector, but they wanted to go beyond teaching code to provide a 360 curriculum that deeply engages the needs of low-income young people of color who have been routinely and systematically underestimated. The Marcy Lab School addresses their personal and professional development, the issues they will face in the workforce, and the challenges of an ever-evolving tech landscape.

At The Marcy Lab School, fellows are provided a rigorous yet affordable college alternative that propels underestimated young people into the financially rewarding, purpose-driven tech careers of their dreams. We build the engineering expertise, critical thinking skills, leadership qualities, and the network that our fellows need to become their best selves, serve their communities, and thrive within an evolving tech sector.

You will play a critical role in helping achieve our organizational goals: you are responsible for leading the strategy and implementation of enrollment initiatives at Marcy, ensuring that the pipeline of prospective students supports our growth and scale aspirations.

This role will report to the Executive Director, and will inherit a team of two.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role requires excellent analysis, communication, and relationship management skills, as well as a deep personal investment in the collective success of young people from marginalized backgrounds. This role helps ensure the growth, impact, and longevity of our academic programming through:

  • [Strategic Planning] Designing and overseeing the implementation of strategic plans for our recruitment, admissions, and growth (R.A.G) work-streams (50%):
    • Create multi-year and in-season recruitment, admissions, and growth strategies;
    • Set plans, goals, benchmarks, and KPIs for R.A.G. work-streams. Manage the execution of those plans and pursuit of those metrics. Pinpoint and roll out pivots, modifications, and course adjustments, when needed, that keep us on track to meet essential outcomes;
    • Position internal and external stakeholders with the knowledge, skill, and investment they need to support the implementation of R.A.G. strategies and plans;
    • Partner with our Marketing & Communications lead to develop and continually update a recruitment marketing strategy and associated marketing collateral;
    • Collaborate with the Development, Partnerships, and Fellowship teams to maximize alignment between R.A.G. campaigns and the priorities of those teams.
  • [Team Leadership/Management] Managing and developing a Recruitment & Admissions team (30%):
    • Lead, manage, and continually develop a thriving Recruitment & Admissions Team.
  • [Data, Reporting, and Analytics] Ensuring the maintenance and use of systems, platforms, data, reporting, and analytics needed to fuel best-in-class recruitment, admissions, and growth (15%):
    • Utilize and build upon organizational systems & platforms to record data and share reports & analytics needed to get us to and through our next phase of recruitment, admissions, and growth;
    • Manage your team’s maintenance and use of our recruitment systems and platforms;
    • Manage stakeholder’s use of our admissions systems and platforms.
  • [Organizational Stewardship] Serving as an internal and external steward of The Marcy Lab School (5%):
    • Represent The Marcy Lab School externally, doing so in a way that elevates awareness of + championship for our mission and work;
    • Support internal efforts to foster a thriving organizational culture.

To fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Senior Director of Recruitment and Admissions candidate will embody The Marcy Lab School’s Core Values in their work with staff, Fellows, alumni, volunteers, and hiring partners:

  • Humility: We acknowledge that our strongest ideas may not come from ourselves but from anyone on our team, and we intentionally share our space, time, and energy with others without the need for reciprocity. Humility is holding yourself accountable, showing gratitude, and knowing we all have so much more to learn.
  • Deliberateness: We give each other the space and permission to be deliberate about our choices, bringing awareness and thoughtfulness to the impact of our actions. It’s taking prep time as seriously as meeting time and allowing space to prioritize and focus on your main things.
  • Gratitude: We are thankful for every experience, person, and interaction that has come our way, from the good to the not-so-good. Gratitude is expressing appreciation so others feel seen, and it’s deeply connected to humility—it requires acknowledging the other.
  • Equity: Our work is grounded in honoring, supporting, and empowering the communities of color that have gotten us to where we are. In practice, equity means centering the voices who look like our Fellows, sharing resources, and ensuring our team reflects the communities we serve.
  • Transparency: We intentionally created systems that are radically transparent and openly hold ourselves accountable for what we say and how we lead. Transparency is saying the hard things, sharing decisions, and delivering the truth even when it's messy or hard.

This is a hybrid role that will require you to be based in NYC and to work frequently, but not always, from our Brooklyn, NY campus in Industry City. Because you’ll be managing and working alongside a small recruitment team primarily in NYC, we’d like you to be based in NYC to make it easier for you to attend events, meetings, and experiences that will be critical to our recruitment efforts and outcomes. This role will also include organizing and attending events at our Industry City campus, so it will be important for you to be able to be on campus when necessary.

Additional benefits include:

  • Medical, Vision, and Dental Insurance;
  • An Employer-sponsored retirement plan (including a 3% employer match);
  • A $1,000 annual professional development budget to be spent on anything from conferences, membership dues, executive coaching, or out-of-pocket therapy costs;
