About the role:

 

Reporting to the Manager of Government & Regulatory Affairs, the Lead, Government Affairs will be supporting the company's government relations and public policy activities. Although the primary focus is on Canadian jurisdictions, this position also assists with our government affairs efforts in the U.S. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional government administration, regulatory affairs, and communications skills. This includes expertise in policy and regulatory analysis, legislation monitoring and reporting, strategy formulation, and issues management. This role can be located in Calgary, Alberta, Vancouver, British Columbia or the Elk Valley British Columbia.

 

To be successful, we are looking for a proactive leader with outstanding research, multitasking, writing, and organizational skills. Attention to detail, accountability and the ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders are vital in this role.

In this role you will:
  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Support the Government Affairs team in developing and implementing government relations strategies
  • Monitor and analyze government affairs, including political, legislative, and regulatory developments
  • Manage lobbying registrations in the jurisdictions where we operate
  • Develop internal and external communications materials such as issue briefs, briefing notes, speaking notes, correspondence, presentations, and updates
  • Plan and execute government relations events
  • Arrange meetings with government officials, including participation and follow-up activities as required
  • Support industry and business association activities, representing EVR as needed
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across the company to develop positions related to government activities
  • Liaise with government affairs consultants and guide work related to government affairs activities
  • Maintain a contact and engagement database for government relations
  • Provide general administrative support to the government relations team


Requirements:
  • Minimum seven years experience in government, government relations, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Business, Communications, or related disciplines, with a Master’s Degree preferred
  • Excellent understanding of political, legislative, and regulatory processes in Canada
  • Willingness to travel within Canada as needed and possess a Class 5 Driver's License
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

$103,000 - $127,000 a year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
