Summer Events Coordinator

At Ello, our mission is to maximize the potential of all children. Our first product is an AI-powered reading coach that listens and engages with children as they read out loud from books. Founded by a team of experts in education, childhood development, and artificial intelligence, Ello is scaling the impact of 1:1 teaching using AI, starting with learning how to read. Together, we believe we can close literacy and educational gaps around the world.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and organized Events Coordinator to oversee the success of 30+ planned events all over the DMV region this summer to promote awareness of Ello’s reading app. The Events Coordinator will manage an events team, oversee our events inventory stored in Arlington, and report directly to our Chief Experience Officer. The ideal candidate will have a knack for logistics, a passion for community engagement, and the leadership skills necessary to motivate and coordinate an enthusiastic team of ambassadors.

Ello is a public benefit corporation, and our team is motivated by the mission of helping all children succeed. An ideal candidate will feel compelled by that mission and have a passionate desire to grow Ello’s footprint and help close the literacy gap in our nation’s capital.

Please note: this is a time-intensive contract role that requires access to a car and attendance at a minimum of 20 events this summer, which take place every weekend between now and the end of August. Thus, we expect this role requires a ~60-hour total commitment during the months of July and August.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead 30+ family-friendly events across the DMV area to promote Ello’s reading app.

  • Manage a team of Community Engagement Ambassadors (including our Ello mascot!) at all events, providing guidance and support to ensure successful event execution.

  • Ensure all event logistics – including transportation, setup, breakdown, and inventory management – are efficiently managed.

  • Develop and implement creative strategies to engage families and children at events.

  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners and leaders to expand Ello’s reach.

  • Gather feedback and insights from events to improve future marketing campaigns.

  • Monitor event budgets and ensure cost-effective operations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in event coordination, promotion, or community engagement.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple weekly events simultaneously.

  • Availability to work onsite during evening and weekend events all over the DMV.

  • Access to a car for transporting materials to and from events.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

We look for candidates who

  • Demonstrate an entrepreneurial mindset and pride themselves on being organized, resourceful, and results-oriented.

  • Take initiative and full ownership of their work.

  • Enjoy thinking outside the box about creative ways to engage families.

  • Love talking to people and possess a natural ability to engage and inspire others.

  • Value teamwork, excel in giving and receiving feedback, and prioritize open, direct communication.

  • Are excited to work hard on Ello’s mission to make a real impact on child literacy at scale.

Here are some reasons to join us

  • Be part of a mission-driven startup that cares deeply about education and child development

  • Take on a role with creative autonomy and the opportunity to work closely with our Chief Experience Officer to scale Ello’s growth and impact

  • Have fun getting paid to lead events all over the DMV this summer!

‍About Ello

Ello is a public benefit corporation on a mission to maximize the potential of all children.

Our team has deep expertise in artificial intelligence, K-12 education, and child development across institutions such as Stanford, Berkeley, Google, Apple, and more. We were part of Y Combinator’s W20 batch and have recently closed a $15M series A led by Goodwater Capital, with major participation from Homebrew (returning investors), Reed Hastings, Common Sense Growth, and Ravensburger. This adds to existing funding led by Project A Ventures with additional investors including Reach Capital, Khosla Ventures, WndrCo, Visible Ventures, and K9 Ventures.

We’re a small, collaborative team that takes each other’s voices very seriously. Because our mission is to support all children, it is critical that our team is representative of the wider community; we place significant emphasis on ensuring diversity in our team and inclusion in our culture.

We want to create an environment in which we can all be our best selves, use our strengths to take Ello forward, and develop our own skills. We want to have fun while working hard to do impactful things that we’re proud of – and we believe it’s possible to do both.

At Ello, we view diversity as a moral imperative and a competitive advantage. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, skin color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status. We plan and structure our interviews to directly assess skills and experience. If you need any accommodations throughout the interview process, please reach out to jackie@ello.com.
