Founded in 2020 and based in Silicon Valley, Empo Health is a seed-funded, VC-backed, and NSF-supported startup developing revolutionary in-home health monitoring products. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineering Program Manager to join our team and drive hardware development efforts at Empo Health, playing a critical role in building out our suite of in-home health monitoring products.
Empo Health’s first hardware product, the Empo Footprint, is an in-home foot-scanning scale that helps doctors and patients monitor for early signs of diabetic foot ulcers, and the team is hard at work preparing the world-class device and associated digital health platform for launch. This is a hands-on role – as our first full-time Engineering Program Manager, you will be responsible for managing budgets, schedules, transfers to manufacturing, and PLM details. As a member of a small startup team, you will also serve a dual role as mechanical engineer, working with other mechanical engineers on the team through design brainstorms, design reviews, CAD development, drawing creation, in-lab test performance, etc. In essence, you will help focus development efforts on shipping, playing a key role in helping Empo deliver against its product roadmap, as you work in the fast paced environment that comes with an early startup.
Your work will directly contribute to detecting the diabetic foot ulcers that impact millions of at-risk patients, potentially preventing amputations and saving lives. In this role you will work closely with the founders and other early team members, and should be comfortable being a critical member of a small team. You should be comfortable breaking high-level directives into tangible tasks and setting your own direction.
If you’re passionate about creating seamless health monitoring devices that have the opportunity to expand access to high quality healthcare, and you want to work with an interdisciplinary team to build that future, then we’d love to hear from you!
This role is a full time position, and the location is hybrid-friendly, so long as you’re based in the USA and able to spend a portion of the week at Empo’s headquarters in San Bruno. Job responsibilities include:
Work with founders and early team members to bring new health monitoring devices to market
Collaborate with electrical, product design, manufacturing, and firmware engineers to develop and maintain accurate hardware development budgets and schedules, communicating changes to the rest of the company as needed
Lead the transfer of hardware products from development to manufacturing from a logistical and scheduling perspective
Manage firmware release schedules, including tie-ins with hardware builds
Assist with mechanical engineering and development
Maintain an accurate and up-to-date PLM
Have industry experience with mechanical engineering and program management, from early prototyping through shipping a commercial product
Are launch-oriented and enjoy organizing changing information
Are comfortable level-shifting, effectively communicating with a variety of stakeholders from direct team members, to vendors, to members of other teams, to executives
Have proficient CAD experience (in any platform)
Have a BS or MS (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering, or a related field
Have excellent English verbal and written communication skills
Are passionate about improving access to high quality healthcare
Have worked in QMS-controlled design environments on non-invasive, low risk medical devices
Are familiar with manufacturing assembly and test processes
Have experience with leading a team
Have experience with consumer electronic products
Have worked on weight scales
Hybrid-friendly working environment
“Take what you need” vacation and sick leave policy
Generous coverage for medical, dental, vision, and mental wellness plans
12 week parental leave + part-time transition period at full pay
Equity incentive options for early full-time employees
