Engagement Specialist

ABOUT THE POSITION, in the role of Engagement Specialist, you will assist with the oversight and coordination of Playworks' administrative and capacity building functions. Your focus will be on activities related to operations, marketing and communications, and development across the four Playworks regions of the Mountain Hub: Arizona, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest, and Utah. This position is a key resource in advancing Playworks' goals and will work with Playworks staff as well as with external partners, donors, and volunteers to create and grow a sustainable and well-organized community-based organization.

Responsibilities, including but not limited to:


Operations - 30% of Time

  • Maintain employee files and databases to ensure proper certifications and documentation for all staff and members are current and on file.
  • Support and manage recruitment including, but not limited to: contacting recruitment sources such as colleges and universities, posting open positions on various online/print sources, coordinating interviews, and managing the recruitment database.
  • Support Hub-wide evaluative initiatives and work with Regional Leaders to track regional data collection efforts.
  • Coordinate operational and administrative needs such as ordering supplies, scheduling interviews and/or meetings, and calendaring events.
  • Support new initiatives by conducting research, gathering data, and preparing reports as needed.

Marketing and Communications - 40% of Time

  • Work with Regional Leaders in creating and executing a social media annual content calendar.
  • Update and maintain regional webpages.
  • Create opportunities for cross-regional engagement and manage Hub-wide communication efforts, such as newsletters, slack channels, email messaging, etc.
  • Support regional teams with email marketing campaigns and drafting content including newsletters, media releases, and blog posts.
  • Update marketing materials as necessary.
  • Act as liaison between HQ Marketing Team and Regional Teams, uplifting important updates and ensuring action items are completed.

Development - 30% of Time

  • Process donations and prepare acknowledgment letters and other correspondence; prepare invoices and check requests as needed.
  • Maintain Salesforce database, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
  • Support development team with marketing, planning, and logistics of special events/fundraising events.
  • Support Regional Leaders with fundraising materials like stewardship plans, demographic and impact data, request templates, and annual reports.
  • Support volunteer recruitment, orientation and onboarding, database, training and recognition activities.
  • Support alumni database management and engagement activities.
  • Support cross-regional collaboration and community amongst Development teams.

Required Skills & Experience

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably with nonprofits, fundraising and/or education/school/youth development services.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills both verbally and in writing with experience communicating effectively with a broad and diverse audience.
  • Advanced computer skills, especially Google Docs and Spreadsheets, with ability to learn new technology quickly. Knowledge of Salesforce, Tableau and Canva is a plus.
  • Familiarity and comfort with social media channels, especially Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Demonstrated database management skills.
  • Proven ability to problem solve, set priorities and juggle competing demands effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate/interact effectively with a broad and diverse range of individuals (includes executives, business leaders, coworkers, students and teachers, variety of cultures and backgrounds).
  • Flexibility to readily adapt to a changing environment.
  • Passionate commitment to Playworks' mission and vision to improve outcomes for children and schools.
  • This position is fully remote. All candidates will be considered, but preference will be given to candidates residing within one of the four Hub regions (Arizona, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest and Utah).

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position that reports to the Mountain Hub Operations Manager.
  • At Playworks, our starting salary takes into consideration internal pay equity, geographic pay differential and robust external market data. We highly value transparency and equity within compensation and therefore are committed to adhering to established compensation pay points. The starting salary for this position is $22.69/hr.
  • A comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k) with employer match, life insurance, employee funded pre-tax health and child care spending accounts.
  • Generous paid time off with paid vacation, sick and holiday leave.

Typical Physical & Mental Demands: Requires prolonged sitting with some bending, stooping and stretching, and eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment.
