JOB PURPOSE:
Works in a team environment under minimal supervision with the responsibility for assisting in the design, development, installation, management, and modification of equipment which is used to control and monitor industrial systems, machinery, and processes. In addition, this Engineer will be tasked to work in conjunction with Mary Kay peers globally to ensure the stability, integrity, integration, and efficient operation of Mary Kay’s electrical controls and automation systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists in the planning, scheduling, and coordination of major, highly visible Capital Expenditure Projects for the Corporate Engineering function. Assist in the development of project plans including project scope, cost/benefit analysis, design basis, success criteria, timelines, resources needs, critical assumptions, commissioning/qualification start-up plans; assist in the negotiation of equipment and performance service contracts, and resolves issues associated with electrical control systems. Demonstrates strong project management, interpersonal skills, and the ability to direct/motivate cross-functional project teams are essential to this role.
2. Proactively identifies opportunities to upgrade current equipment performance so that speed to market, start-up curves, total delivered cost, capital utilization, clean/safe design and product quality are continuously improved. Upholds and maintains Engineering design standards and will be responsible for engineering specifications, documentation, standardization, quality assurance, service delivery methods and cost /value analysis. Ensures compliance with applicable standards, rules and regulations. Manages system and equipment upgrades, expansions and exchanges.
3. Assists in the advisement to management on items related to the Electrical Controls and Automation Strategic Program. Collaborates and serves as liaison with Manufacturing Operations, Information Systems Technology, and suppliers globally to install new Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
4. Attends and participates in capital project meetings, reviews, testing, studies and risk assessments. Communicates project status to all departments with associated involvement in the project.
5. Visits other company's manufacturing operations and attends technical trade shows to identify new technological breakthroughs in controls (benchmarking). Incumbent stays abreast of cutting-edge technology, industry news and publications regarding new trends, innovations and standards.
6. Maintains an awareness of Engineering responsiveness to Government Agency compliance, i.e., FDA, OSHA, City of Dallas, City of Lewisville, etc., regarding such items as process and system validation.
7. Assists in the qualification and validation process for all control system modifications and additions.
8. Assists with technical support in the troubleshooting of all major equipment malfunctions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Computer System Engineering.
Experience: 2+ years of experience in electrical controls and automation systems in the cosmetics, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or related industry.
1. Possess hands-on experience in the design, development, installation, and testing of new control systems.
2. Some experience with Siemens and Allen-Bradley control systems, or other programming system.
3. Some experience with SCADA or MES applications (Wonderware, Cimplicity, Simatic IT, etc.)
4. Knowledge of basic manufacturing network architecture methodologies a plus.
5. Knowledge of control loops, servo controls, and variable frequency drives a plus.
6. Experience with flow meters, vision systems, and smart instrumentation a plus.
7. Utilizes in-depth knowledge, problem-solving skills and an awareness of Mary Kay priorities to achieve stated results.
8. Must have the ability to provide sound input and overall technical direction for projects.
9. Should have knowledge of machine design, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and motor controls.
10. Demonstrated strong project management and interpersonal skills.
11. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
12. Must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally overnight approximately 20-30% of the time.
