Overall Description:

The Engineering Manager – ECO will be a manager and technical resource for the manufacturing of ethylene oxide from ethanol. This role will provide process engineering technical support and supervision for ethylene oxide manufacturing, continuous improvement of process, process safety, product quality, cost reduction and energy consumption. Lead and develop the plant technical team. All other duties as assigned by management.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for driving the development of the process engineering discipline capability and skills, particularly in the less experienced staff in order to create an integrated and flexible technical capability and diverse career path options for technical staff.
  • Provide process engineering expertise (e.g., analyzing, troubleshooting, identifying/mitigating risks, optimizing operating efficiency and supporting process designs).
  • Intimate knowledge of PSM process
  • Consistently demonstrates extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity and creativity.
  • Develop and apply advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts.
  • Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty.
  • Technical contribution to both EO Plant and other Croda sites.
  • Support small capital project work for area through process design, execution, and start-up phases.
  • Key contributor to plant sustainability strategy and 5-year planning process
  • Self -supervising within guidance and expectations of divisional management.
  • Ability to negotiate complex arrangements with other groups, service providers, collaborators and vendors.
  • Ability to make optimal trade-offs in own goals and resources (staff and budget) to help the site achieve its goals. Proactive and anticipates challenges.
  • Plan department projects (including people, installations, etc.) to deliver overall performance which meets site needs. With the support of all operation staff, planning ranges from short term to three years. Flexibility, creativity to alter plans is required.
  • Occasional travel required

Education/specialized training required:

  • B. S. Chemical Engineering degree
  • Six Sigma Green Belt and Lean Manufacturing preferred.
  • Must have oral and written proficiency in the English language

Experience Required:

  • 10+ years of process engineering experience in continuous processing of hazardous chemicals
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop people
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability and interest in working in a hands-on environment with all levels of staff (operators, mechanics, engineers, lab technicians, plant management, senior leadership, etc.).
DCS and controls experience. Rockwell DCS preferred.
  • Appreciation of financial systems for cost control, product costing and profit maximization

Physical requirements:

Ability to walk, sit and/or stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day. May be required to move throughout production areas on uneven surfaces, climb stairs and be exposed to outside temperatures/weather.
