Job Description

This role is designed for a seasoned professional in the financial controls domain, embodying the peak of competence expected within this specialty. With a comprehensive mastery over the procedures in their area of expertise, the Financial Controls Advisory and Testing - Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing the development and performance of key internal controls over financial reporting (IFCR) to align with regulatory standards and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Beyond their core responsibilities, they are instrumental in managing program and project implementations, making significant contributions to departmental goals and planning efforts. Additionally, this position may encompass providing work direction to lower-level support staff and fostering a collaborative and effective team environment. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate with the Finance division to develop a Financial Risk Assessment to identify potential gaps and remediate those gaps by implementing/performing additional internal controls. Leverage the financial controls framework to extend controls testing into operational and IT domains, developing and executing an integrated control testing program across finance, operations, and IT. Work closely with Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Information Technology, and Internal Audit to ensure effective alignment of internal controls across various functions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure robust internal control environments, drive continuous improvement, and meet evolving regulatory requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Financial Controls, Documentation and Compliance: Work closely with the Finance division to develop, document, and implement key financial controls. Develop program framework and applicable test procedures to confirm periodically the existence and operating effectiveness of key financial controls. Coordinate with the Finance division to ensure control owners retain sufficient documentation to evidence the performance of key controls. Assist with the tracking of compliance with key financial metrics. Ensure compliance with GAAP and financial regulations. Conduct risk assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Operational and IT Controls Testing: Develop program framework and applicable test procedures to confirm periodically the existence and operating effectiveness of key operational and IT controls in coordination with the Business and Technology Risk teams within Operational Risk Management.
  • Partner and Collaborate: Partner with the Internal Audit team and external Audits and regulators. Partner with the other teams within the Risk division to coordinate key model validations, including the CECL model. Coordinate with internal departments to streamline processes.
  • Subject matter expertise, Staff oversite, and development: Research emerging threats and trends. Drive staff development, provide quarterly performance assessments, establish goals, and pursue development opportunities.
  • Bank Secrecy Act: Remains cognizant of and adheres to Ent policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act.

Qualifications

Minimum Formal Qualifications for this Position

  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar field of study.
  • Master's Degree Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or similar field of study (preferred)
  • 8+ years' experience designing internal controls across finance, operations, and IT, including implementing and testing these controls effectively to include:
    • 6+ years' experience in cross-functional leadership and issue management
    • 2+ years' management or supervisory experience.


Each year of relevant work experience may be exchanged for a year in a relevant degree program or vice versa. For example, a requirement of a bachelor's degree in accounting and 2+ years of account experience could be substituted for a high school diploma and 6 years of relevant accounting work experience or a master's degree in accounting and 0 years of work experience.


Technical or Specialized Knowledge/Skills:

  • Understanding of financial statements and ratios, analyzing data using software, and synthesizing insights for decision-making.
  • Ability to assess risks using established methodologies, communicate findings effectively, and anticipate and mitigate potential risks.
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial statements according to GAAP/IFRS, analyze reports, and present information clearly to stakeholders.
  • Ability to utilize strategic frameworks, conduct market analysis, and develop long-term goals aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Ability to stay updated on laws and regulations, implement compliance policies, and conduct audits to ensure adherence.
  • Ability to apply auditing standards, evaluate internal controls, and write clear audit reports with actionable recommendations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use statistical methods for forecasting, analyze historical data, and adapt forecasts to changing conditions.
  • Ability to develop policies aligned with corporate finance principles, engage stakeholders in discussions and assess policy effectiveness.
  • Ability to create and manage budgets, analyze budget variances, and collaborate with departments for input and tracking performance.
  • Analytical, communication, and organizational skills across all areas drive informed financial decision-making.
  • Understanding of relevant compliance standards, including SOX.
  • Knowledge of control frameworks like COSO and COBIT.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage remediation efforts, and collaborate with finance, IT, and operations to address control deficiencies and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Risk Assessment, Regulatory Knowledge, and Reporting Skills.
  • ability to conduct risk assessments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant regulations (e.g., FFIEC, GLBA, Colorado DORA Financial Services Division), and delivering clear, detailed reports on control effectiveness and remediation to senior management.


Certifications Required:

  • Cert Public Accountant preferred
  • Cert Internal Auditor preferred

Additional Information

The pay range for this position is: $106,475 to $139,754 per Year (S18)

Final compensation for this position will be determined by various factors such as relevant work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, certifications, and internal pay equity.
