Our office in San Diego, CA is looking for a highly motivated Environmental Science Intern. The successful candidate will work as a team member to support routine and non-routine assignments related to environmental projects of substantial variety and complexity, typically under the direct supervision of a Project Manager. You will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world water resources and environmental problems, while learning the skills needed to be a successful consultant. Those who are extremely responsive, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, communicative, and willing to learn new skills are highly desirable.


More About This Role: The main duty will be to conduct field investigations and data collection to support pollution prevention programs, including outfall/drainage surveys that would be conducted off hours (late night or early morning).

In addition, you will:

  • Support field analysis of watershed resources including upland, wetland, riparian and stream channel areas
  • Compile and compute a variety of data, and help catalogue and manage databases
  • Analyze watershed and water quality data using GIS and basic statistical techniques
  • Develop or prepare descriptive charts, figures/maps, and tables/matrices
  • Support watershed planning through application of quantitative and qualitative evaluation techniques
  • Conduct research related to watershed management studies
  • Perform writing assignments to contribute to project documentation and deliverables such as memos and reports
  • Help quality assure work

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Background and academic coursework leading to a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in water resources, environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field
  • Education and/or demonstrated work experience related to strong writing and communication skills are required
  • Training related to watershed management such as field survey, research, statistical analysis, and hydrology is desired
  • An understanding of local, state, and federal water programs, regulations, and trends highly desired
  • Must be computer literate and have knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and ArcGIS
  • Demonstrated ability to summarize and present scientific data and model outputs in concise, readable language and figures
  • Familiarity or experience with fundamentals of water quality/biological monitoring stormwater planning
  • An ability to think critically to formulate and solve problems related to hydrology, water quality, and ecological processes
  • A valid driver’s license is required

The hourly pay rate for this position is $20 - $32/hour depending on college level, experience and skill.
