Environmental Science Specialist

This Environmental Science Specialist is responsible for providing field support and technical assistance to maintain compliance with environmental regulatory standards including, but not limited to, NPDES requirements, water quality monitoring, pre- and post- drill residential drinking water requirements, complaint investigations, and spill response and remediation.

Target Responsibilities
  • Serve as a steward of the CNX Mission and Core Values (Responsibility, Ownership, and Excellence).
  • Serve as a resource for compliance and regulatory interpretation.
  • Serve as an advocate for CNX and the industry, by providing expert analysis and testimony as needed for regulatory compliance requirements, public meetings, and other scheduled public education opportunities.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of water quality monitoring and compliance plans that are submitted to state and federal regulatory agencies, including but not limited to:
NPDES permits
Individual permit requirements (Well sites, storage tanks, and impoundments)
Pre-post- drill requirements and evaluation
Complaint investigations
Spill response and remediation
  • Review, interpret, and report analytical data provided by regulatory agencies, contractors, laboratories, and third parties on an as needed basis to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Monitor and develop plans and protocols associated with changing regulations.
  • Work with operations to develop water treatment and/or handling strategies to achieve compliance with permit limits.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders during various phases of planning, permitting, and development for environmental chemistry/water quality aspects.
  • Support the VP of Environmental Strategy during upset conditions (including potential for) and situational response.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemistry, or environmental Science.
  • 3-5 years of related or equivalent experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Must have broad knowledge of environmental risk factors and implications.
  • May require travel to remote CNX operations with infrequent overnight stays.
  • Attendance at occasional evening meetings or public hearings.
