They will also have responsibility for performing audits of corporate and property functions, Sarbanes-Oxley 404 audits and provide external audit support. They will assist the head of the department by acting in a consulting/advisory role to stakeholders on process matters that impact the business and creating efficiencies in the audit department using technology.What You Will DoPerform ESG functions including:• Evaluation of Company’s ESG risk assessment.• Identify potential ESG risks and opportunities within our operations and develop strategies for mitigation and maximization, respectively.• Collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management Committee to ensure ESG risks are reviewed and addressed as needed.• Ensure ESG policies and procedures are documented and recommend improvements to these to enhance processes.• Evaluation of process /controls documentation to identify gaps for various disclosures as they become applicable.• Audits of the disclosure metrics for relevancy, accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.• Maintain inventory of disclosure requirements.• Cross-train other internal audit team members on ESG audits.Perform Additional Functions Including• SOX audits and audits of properties, corporate and operational areas.• Assist in the development of risk-based audit plans. Prepare internal audit reports for management, make recommendations for internal control and process enhancements, and obtain management's feedback.• Communicate with corporate and operational personnel to develop appropriate recommendations for internal control and process enhancements.• Provide support to the external auditors as needed.• Assist with implementation and use of new/existing technology to create audit efficiencies.• Perform other duties as requested by the VP Internal Audit, Audit Committee or Senior Management.• Ability to remain current with industry trends and maintain all professional certifications.What You Will Need• Bachelor's degree from a four-year university or college in Environmental Science with Business Administration, Accounting or Finance preferred.• CPA/CIA preferred.• 5+ years of audit experience, at least one of which should be in ESG.• Strong understanding of ESG principles, frameworks, and reporting standards.• 3+ years of SOX experience required i.e., designing/testing/implementing internal controls, and reviewing business processes.• Experience with data analytics/audit automation and associated tools strongly preferred.• Knowledge of real estate industry preferred.• Excellent analytical, written/verbal communication, and relationship building skills.• Ability to work independently, adapt to change quickly, multi-task in a deadline-oriented environment, be part of a team and work with a variety of stakeholders.• Ability and willingness to take initiative to address problems and make continuous process improvements.What The Job Requires• Operates in a fast-paced work setting. Requires the ability to multitask and adapt quickly to changing priorities. May involve tight deadlines and high-energy work situations.• Work is primarily conducted in an office setting.• Requires the ability to work Monday through Friday.• This job position entails in-person office requirements for a minimum of 3 days per week: Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, located at Essex's corporate offices in Irvine, Woodland Hills, San Mateo, and Bellevue.• Ability to travel as needed.What You Will Bring To The Table• No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position.• May provide informal assistance such as technical guidance and/or training to coworkers.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. New hires generally start between $101,000.00 - $127,000.00 per year. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets; relevant experience; internal equity; and other business and organizational needs.This role is also eligible to participate in Essex’s discretionary Annual Bonus program that is commensurate with the level of the position.
