Events Coordinator

The Culinary Services department at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking an Event Coordinator to plan and execute events for staff and visitors on and off site.

Position Responsibilities:

Receive requests via email, internet, and phone for culinary services events including breakfasts, lunches, dinners, receptions, and barbeques.
Enter, update, and maintain information on the event calendar and database.
Work with Chefs to create both food service and event menus.
Coordinate menu proposals, create room layouts, arrange for equipment/rentals/flowers/linens, produce cost estimates, and create signage.
Act as a liaison for vendors and an on-site supervisor at events.
Plan and execute events including cocktail receptions, luncheons & dinners (overseeing the setup, maintenance, and breakdown.)
Schedule and supervise seasonal, part-time, and full-time staff.
Assist in training new and existing seasonal staff.
Maintain campus signage, both digital and print.

Position Requirements:

Associate’s degree
Two years’ experience in a restaurant, catering hall, and/or hotel
Hours will vary including evenings and weekends
Possess a valid driver’s license and have your own transportation
Experience with menu planning, scheduling staff & supervising others
Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint
Excellent communication & customer service skills
Able to prioritize & handle multiple projects
Some evenings & weekends required
Works well as part of a team
