The Events Technology Specialist oversees and provides technical support and training for event, classroom and meeting needs for academic and institutional purposes. The Events Technology Specialist is a professional staff member who is an expert and leader in the use and operation of technology needed for live events in campus event venues, classrooms, meeting spaces and online through Zoom. This person will function in a continually advancing knowledge of presentation technology and accessibility options; and will act as a training and information resource for the Emerson community toward those purposes.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Function as primary contact for all on-campus event technical needs for the Emerson community. Intake requests, contact event planners, conduct needs assessment and consultation for events. Ensure procurement of appropriate technology resources; deliver, setup and strike equipment for events as needed. Arrange scheduling of assistant technical staff as needed and act as day-of-event supervisor for event tech team: includes Tech Division staff, student employees and/or external AV freelancers as needed.
  • Provide direct technology support for live on-campus events by operating AV and computer technology to control lighting, sound, projection, presentation and streaming communications for programs and meetings in institutional classrooms, conference rooms and event venues such as the Beard Room, the Bordy Theater, Brown & Plofker Gym, Lion's Den, Loft and Private Dining Room.
  • Act as primary technical Zoom Administrator for the institution and provide direct technical support for institutional webinars and live conferencing meetings and events. Provide VIP technical service for events sponsored by the President's Office, Provost, etc.
  • Provide training, troubleshooting and support for classroom AV, control system and connectivity needs to faculty, staff and people presenting and providing instruction in classrooms.
  • Train and supervise student employee staff as necessary to support events and meetings.
  • Supply, setup and operate live-streaming equipment as appropriate for institutional special events. Assist Emerson Productions and visiting media organizations requiring connection for live-stream events.
  • Function as Tech Division accessible technology expert. Research, develop, implement and support accessible technology options for in-person and remote events. Provide training and assistance with accessibility resources in classrooms, venues and Zoom meetings.
  • Maintain events calendar for tech support to Emerson events.
  • Provide training on use of portable PA and AV presentation equipment for users in need of equipment for self-serve, ad hoc and informal events.
  • Assist department technical staff with major campus equipment installations in classrooms, event spaces and production facilities.
  • Process post-event audio and video files from lecture capture and Zoom events for upload to video asset repository (currently Panopto) for educational and institutional uses.
  • Provide instructional resources and consultation to Emerson community members on dubbing and transfer of media materials for instructional use. Provide occasional media transfer service for internal and VIP purposes.
  • Consult, advise and manage equipment procurement for temporary installations of media equipment for Emerson campus exhibits, shows and art galleries.
  • Develop and maintain shared digital database of available classroom and venue technology and setup options.
  • Supervise Help Desk/User Services student employees in delivery of campus technical support functions as available during evening hours.

Qualifications:
  • Expert level (4-6 years) knowledge of AV, sound, lighting and media presentation systems required.
  • Advanced experience with Zoom and webinar features required.
  • Experience with operation and installation of AV equipment and control systems required.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer-based presentation software, connectivity and operating systems for both Mac and PC required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems during events and meetings. Includes simple repairs and workarounds.
  • Previous oversight responsibility for the work of junior workers such as students required.
  • Proven history of strong customer service quality required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.

Preferred /Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Education (including hardware, software, and equipment)
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in digital media production, media arts or audiovisual technology desired.
  • AV certification: e.g. CTS, CAT, Extron/CrestronAV Associate desired.
  • Previous experience working in technology for higher education organizations desired.
  • Experience with accessibility accommodation technology resources desired.
  • Familiarity with digital media production software systems such as Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Familiarity with analog media use and presentation.

Work Environment:
  • Hours are generally 10:45 to 7 PM; flexible to facilitate VIP events as needed during other hours.
  • Typical office environment plus unobtrusive tech work in event venues and meeting spaces.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs of equipment and accessories.
  • Ability to work with students and professionals of varying technical skill levels and understanding.

COMPENSATION

Starting salary for this position will be between $54,274 - $66,486 annually, commensurate with experience.

Grade of Position: S-23-07E

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

This position will be exclusively represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), Local 888 for purposes of wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
