Job details

Facilities Apprentice (Maine Maritime Academy)

JAX is a large and sophisticated facility with buildings and systems specified for mission-critical operations including the care of thousands of research mice and high-precision biomedical research. These facilities require a dedicated and well-trained staff who are charged with the operation and maintenance of both legacy and cutting-edge systems. To maintain this infrastructure and expand the number of trainees entering the workforce, we seek further channels to attract qualified candidates for roles within facilities maintenance. We are offering apprenticeships to individuals currently enrolled in applicable technical curriculums in order to give them practical experience during their education. This program includes opportunities to work part time during the school period and full time within school breaks. We are committed to providing these trainees with a unique learning opportunity that will help them advance toward industry licensure and potential full-time permanent employment at JAX. We will partner with Eastern Maine Community College and Maine Maritime Academy to identify, screen, and accept candidates for apprenticeships and eventual hire upon graduation. Those who complete their professional training, including a JAX apprenticeship in facilities services, will have the opportunity to be hired at JAX in a full-time position and earn a family-sustaining wage.
