Each night, we keep 172 families close to the care and resources they need through six area Ronald McDonald Houses® and three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms®. Enabling families to stay close to their hospitalized child supports the health and well-being of the child and saves families more than $10 million in hotel and food costs each year. We also operate the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® program, providing medical care to children in underserved areas. RMHC-CNI is an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

The Overnight Family Services Manager helps make the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital feel like home for the families of critically and chronically ill children. This essential team member is the first impression for critically ill children and their families arriving to the House and their role is to provide support during a family’s stay.

The Overnight Family Services Manager is always willing to lend a hand, and they know that there are no tasks too big or too small when it comes to supporting families, volunteers, and peers during the overnight hours. This person thrives serving others without always being forward facing. Whether it’s performing administrative tasks, late night chats with a concerned guardian, completing inventory or tidying up spaces during rounds, the Family Services Manager ensure the experience at the Ronald McDonald House is warm and welcoming. This person is a true team player that brings steadiness, genuine positivity, and curiosity to their role. The Family Services Manager is instrumental in supporting systems effectively, managing processes efficiently and demonstrates consistently strong communication, ensuring operations to run smoothly.

This full-time Family Services Manager works 10:00pm-8:30a, Sunday-Wednesday at the Ronald McDonald House near Lurie Children’s Hospital (211 E. Grand Avenue, Chicago, IL). Free parking is provided.

Cross-training is expected, as the House location you are assigned may shift temporarily to another House depending on the coverage needs within the Chapter.

Plus $1 dollar extra from base rate if Bilingual.


Essential Job Functions

  • Execute defined policies and procedures,
  • Act as liaison to hospitals to process referrals/reservations. Explain/clarify program policies and procedures to guests and referring partners and build positive working relationships.
  • Welcome guest families, complete check in paperwork, and provide tours/orientation.
  • Provide and assist families with information, directing them to resources, activities or amenities.
  • Perform regular rounds throughout shift to ensure the building is secure & identify maintenance needs, logging issues as appropriate.
  • Check to ensure all systems, such as camera and key access, are functioning properly.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties including resetting the kitchen, stocking supplies, emptying trash, dishes, bed-making, etc.
  • Complete laundry related tasks as needed.
  • Assist with statistics for program by inputting daily occupancy records.
  • Track guest donations & complete data entry for in-kinds as needed.
  • Respond as necessary to emergency situations such as facility related issues, medical emergencies for guests and/or conflicts requiring intervention and/or law enforcement.
  • Encourage adherence to program guidelines and coordinate a solution when issues occur.
  • Complete Incident Reports in a timely manner & inform staff members of any unusual incidents.
  • Management of contractor relationships & daily accountabilities for security & overnight cleaning.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by Program Director.
  • Set up grab and go breakfast items and prep coffee station for morning guests.
  • Track inventory for House supplies and communicate excess/identify needs Chapter-wide.
  • Be knowledgeable of the program location security system and features (i.e. Key card access system, camera system, facility related shut off valves, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, business administration, non-profit management, or related field preferred
  • 2 years of relevant experience in residential program preferred.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multitask and function effectively under pressure.
  • Ability to think proactively and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees, and the general public; ability to represent the charity effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Experience managing multiple projects concurrently, demonstrating a sense of urgency, results orientated and meets deadlines.
  • Effective communication, writing and grammar skills, paying great attention to detail.
  • Proficient with computer database, word processing and publishing programs. Experience using Raisers Edge software helpful.
  • Compassionate and caring individual, aligned to our mission and standard of care.

Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • Frequent interruptions, ability to multitask key.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.

  • Must be physically capable of carrying 35 lbs.
