Under direction of the Waterman Dairy Operations manager, supports all functions of teaching, research, and Extension; provides general support in dairy animal care such as milking, feeding, breeding, manure handling, health care, record keeping and general farm work; follows standard operating procedures (SOP), standard management plans (SMP) and compliance with IACUC animal care standards related to the dairy operation; assists with training student employees in practical dairy management techniques; maintains and cleans facilities and equipment; operates farm equipment and vehicles including tractors, mixer wagon, milking equipment, skid loader, truck and livestock trailer; assists with conducting research on dairy cows, collects samples of feed, milk, blood and other materials; maintains records; weighs cattle; performs other duties related to dairy teaching and research including cleaning and bedding livestock housing, and assisting with herd health treatments and conducting tours. Other duties as assigned. Requires variable working hours and weekend work. Position located in Columbus, OH. This is a temporary 6 month position with possibility of extension for up to 12 months.
The offer for this position will be based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
50%: Provide general support in dairy animal care such as milking, feeding TMR, breeding, feeding calves, manure handling, health care, record keeping and general farm work.
30% Assists with training student employees in practical dairy management techniques
20%: Maintains and cleans facilities and equipment; operates farm equipment and vehicles including tractors, mixer wagon, milking equipment, skid loader and truck and livestock trailer.
