Fiber Optic Technician

What You'll be Doing:

• Use the Air Blown Fiber method, blow fiber between the Edge Fiber Center and all required locations.
• Blow fibers with varying strand counts – 2f, 6f, 288s, 3456 Ribbon fiber etc.
• Lead the installation and splicing of our Edge Fiber Center equipment.
• Install cross-connect patches and conduct full circuit OTDR tests.
• Splice 288s and 3456 ribbon fiber cables to each other and to cassettes.
• Help create our splicing requirements document.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors installing customer drops.
• Investigate various field conditions and develop procedures for installing new service to Single-Family Homes, MDUs, Offices, and Small Cells.
• Develop circuit turn-up and acceptance process including OTDR test procedures.
• Continually improve the customer turn-up procedures.
• Ensure proper safety techniques and incident reporting procedures are followed.
• Ensure that all jobs are maintained in a project tracking system with complete accuracy.
• Operate all vehicles, equipment, and tools while adhering to company safety standards.

Job Requirements:

• Associate degree preferred.
• Minimum of two years of fiber optics experience
• Air blown fiber experience is a must
• Minimum of two years of experience in splicing fiber
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
