About the Role
As a Field Applications Scientist, you will be responsible for providing customized robotics solutions for our customers. The focus of this role is both pre & post sales, with emphasis on creating a seamless customer experience as they onboard with the Opentrons platform. We are customer obsessed in everything we do. The customer’s experience and success are top of mind for this team and that is reflected in their work on both a technical and customer service level.
What You Will Do

Join sales calls to serve as the technical and scientific expert for implementing science on Opentrons Products; speak to specific customer concerns (feasibility, timing, how to leverage Opentrons products as a science solution, etc.)

Serve as a point of contact for customers as they complete the purchasing process.

Run the onboarding call with the customer post sale. This can be answering customer questions related to remote protocol development, help with protocol pathing, etc.

Complete remote or on-site protocol development (if required). This includes protocol development, optimization, and confirming success.

Triage customer issues as they arise after implementation using a team based approach (i.e.. engaging sales rep. for expansion business opportunities, support for issues, etc.).

Attend local and national* trade shows as required by sales and marketing teams.
- Travel outside of assigned territory may be required to fulfill business needs
What We Are Looking For
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering or related major required
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a customer facing role, specifically in the life sciences industry. Masters/PHD in Life Sciences or Biomedical Engineering major will be considered in lieu of experience.
- Prior experience with liquid handling automation and/or Opentrons robots strongly preferred
- Prior experience with Salesforce preferred
- Prior experience with GitHub
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of core biology workflows such as NGS, NAP, PCR, ELISA, etc.
- Solid understanding of how to debug code of automated liquid handlers. Knowledge of Python is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to be customer obsessed and solutions driven
- Proficiency with Google Suite or related software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Fast-paced environment with a high volume of work to be completed
- Up to 50% overnight travel required
- Limited physical effort required, including installation of robots
Compensation Range: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $100,000 - $127,500 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity and full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered.
