(Flexible Location)
TNTP seeks a full-time Financial Analyst, Strategic Growth. This position will be based in a home office anywhere in the U.S. and is available immediately. Travel for team and organizational meetings a few times a year may be required (contingent upon organizational/state/federal regulations).

Who We Are
A national nonprofit founded by teachers, TNTP believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.

The Strategic Growth, Legal and Finance division at TNTP develops and executes the fiscal and legal strategy and sustainability planning for our $140M+ non-profit organization of over 700 full-time and seasonal staff members across the country. TNTP is a revenue-generating non-profit organization. It utilizes a blended revenue model to sustain and advance its work. A majority of TNTP’s annual revenue comes from contracts with the school districts, charter networks, and states to which it delivers consulting services.

What You’ll Do
As the Financial Analyst for Strategic Growth, you will conduct research and analysis that supports many of TNTP’s most critical business decisions - building the sustainability and scalability of TNTP’s finances and operations in pursuit of its long-term impact goals. Your work will inform long-term planning, investigate drivers of business performance, help build organizational systems and infrastructure, and shape new services.

Reporting to the Director of Strategic Growth, you will collaborate on a team of four and in partnership with staff from across the organization. Your work will mostly be project-based coupled with one-off requests to support inquiries from across the organization.

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Support with team to measure and analyze current revenue streams to inform multi-year projections and to help identify strategies that improve TNTP’s sustainability and scalability
  • Collect and merge data to support the Strategic Growth team
  • Use data to produce compelling messages that will serve to influence strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate data entry and data tracking across multiple projects, including building customized data tracking tools and reports as requested
  • Perform forensics: work with team to analyze business data to uncover hidden problems and shape solutions
  • Support TNTP in becoming more data-driven in its decision making:
  • Triangulate financial, business, operational, and impact data to create a more cohesive view of the organization’s performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Present insights to cross-functional staff and engage in collaborative problem-solving through scenarios, options analyses, and other data-driven methods
  • Assess and develop new performance measurements
  • In collaboration, develop insights that help build TNTP’s internal systems and infrastructure (e.g., data capabilities, performance management systems, streamlined operations, etc.)
  • Support in conducting market research to map out TNTP’s place in the competitive landscape, assess new growth opportunities, and forecast trends in the macro-economy and relevant industries that impact TNTP’s performance (e.g., K-12 education, higher ed, workforce development, non-profits, etc.)

What You’ll Bring
First and foremost, we are looking for amazing people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission, and are highly motivated to change children's lives through education. We value diversity of ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, sexual identity, gender, religion, language, ability, and experience and exemplify this through the makeup of our team at all levels. You will be right at home here if you cultivate strong relationships and push yourself, your work, and the people around you to the next level. We encourage those with the following identities to apply: Black, Latinx, Asian American, and Pacific Islander, Indigenous people, LGBTQIA+ and non-binary people, people living with disabilities, and others with lived experience being part of marginalized communities.

We expect our Financial Analyst to:
  • Be Intrapreneurial: You love to build organizations, but you also understand that large-scale change takes time.
  • Love Strategy: You are a naturally creative and structured problem solving who brings clarity to ambiguity. You are adept at “zooming out” to view the organization at a systems level and “zooming in” to interrogate the details.
  • Learn: It’s rare that anyone comes in with across-the-board mastery, and you should plan on intentionally growing your skills while here to fill out your toolkit. You are strong with Excel and may have experience with other technologies, but more importantly, you have a knack for directing your own learning.
  • Insights ambassador: You communicate complex, technical analysis in terms that are relevant and accessible to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Empathetic relationship builder and collaborator: You regularly put yourself into others’ shoes to deeply understand and honor their point of view. You have an ability to partner with diverse communities and build relationships.
  • Equity: You center equity in everything you do – whether it be research, analysis, written communications, or your interactions with others.
  • Love organizing data. Large, messy data sets are no match for your operational skills. You know how to prioritize and simplify complex information, bringing order to chaos.
  • Pay superlative attention to operational details. Your planning will be the backbone of an efficient and productive team. The team will look to you to establish systems, develop project plans, and support implementation, including navigating our clients’ research and evaluation offices.

Additional Qualifications Include:
  • Strong spreadsheet/Excel skills are a must
  • Experience performing a variety of business analyses (e.g., financial, market, operational) preferred
  • Experience developing analytical models that provide meaningful insights at different levels of the organization for business planning and other complex decisions, particularly when using imperfect data
  • Highly collaborative with excellent interpersonal and communications skills; you are able to succinctly convey complex and technical analysis in a straightforward manner [with minimal jargon]
  • Results-oriented problem-solver who can assess challenges and identify solutions in ambiguous situations
  • Adept at juggling multiple projects at once, prioritizing effectively, working efficiently, and anticipating future needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Required working knowledge of business finance, operations and/or market analysis
  • Previous experience working in an education-focused organizations preferred
