Financial Controller

London

As a Financial Controller, your mission will be to scale our finance function; with a focus on the accounting, associated technology and internal controls for Hokodo and its operating entities across multiple geographies.


About Hokodo

We’re an international and diverse team of experienced finance, tech, and data science specialists, based in London and Paris whose goal is to modernise online B2B payments.

Our B2B Buy Now, Pay Later solution enables merchants to offer credit terms to their business customers instantly. Merchants integrated with us see a 40% average increase in revenue... and we’re only just getting started.

We already have a list of stellar clients and are scaling rapidly across Western Europe. We’ve also recently raised $40 million in Series B investment which will help us with our mission of enabling 1 million businesses to access a better way to pay by 2025. We’ve made good progress so far with 32,000 businesses already regularly using Hokodo, but we need your help to take us to the next level!

About the role

We’re offering the chance to really make a difference in the world of B2B e-commerce. We’re looking for this person to own and improve our financial accounting and reporting to produce timely, accurate and compliant reporting.

You'll be a part of a high performing team, and your decisions and actions will have a direct impact on our business success. Location: We would like you to work from our office in London a couple of days per week.

What you’ll be doing

  • Partner with the VP of Finance to build out our accounting and controllership function within Hokodo.

  • Lead/improve our financial close process, develop new accounting policies and processes as required.

  • Preparing and publishing all monthly financial statements.

  • Ensuring Hokodo reporting meets compliant standards with statutory law and financial regulations (including Corporate Tax, VAT, R&D Claims)

  • Lead our first financial audit process in FY'23, overseeing the audit process and liaising with external personnel where required.

  • Managing all day to day accounting operations and initially performing some transactional activity.

  • Managing and growing a small team.

  • Own and improve our internal controls.

Who we’re looking for

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent in European country) with several years PQE experience in controllership or senior accounting role

  • Prior experience operating within UK or EU financial services companies with complex cross-border group structures with an understanding of relevant accounting standards (deemed loan accounting, loan loss provisioning)

  • Strong analytical and technical finance skills, including Excel

  • An eye towards continuous process improvement, including the ability to innovate and to simplify both finance and operational processes

Nice to have:

  • Experience leading company through first audit process & ERP Migration

  • Prior experience building/scaling accounting function with a robust control environment (ideally in a fintech)
