Director, Marketing Communications

The Marketing Communications Director is responsible for leading and defining the communications and public relations strategy in alignment with the organization’s vision, values, and brand strategy.
Here's what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful:
Job Duties
  • Prepare Earned Media roadmap that sets out strategy, themes, and narrative across media targets (financial, consumer, tech, local etc.)
  • Collaborate with selected SMEs across the organization to design breakthrough PR campaigns to support brand and corporate strategies and further the brand story with key audiences.
  • Build and maintain a Public Relations playbook for product launches and promotions
  • Prepare executives and selected SMEs for communications events and opportunities, including conference presentations, media interviews, employee meetings, videos, etc. 
  • Establish and monitor KPIs to measure the effectiveness of crisis communications and member communications via Earned and Owned media channels, and providing regular performance reports and making data-driven decisions to optimize strategies
  • Implement thought leadership strategy and communications, pulling from range of content sources necessary to deliver an authoritative, relevant, and compelling thought leadership program
  • Leverage first and third-party research (including competitive analysis) to identify opportunities to advance FT’s brand position via earned media.
  • Serve as the key advisor to executive leadership on communication strategies for crisis situations, ensuring approach and supporting materials are clear, concise, and aligned with brand voice.
  • Be on call and able to respond during out-of-office hours to Crisis Management team alerts, participate in crisis comms planning, and be a guide on when and how best to communicate to impacted members
  • Guide social strategy and manage Social Manager to ensure tight alignment of with brand voice, earned media strategy and content strategy.  
  • Ensure that Operational Communications fits the brand voice and contributes to a positive member experience, as well as assess its overall impact against pre-defined success criteria
  • Work with Operational Communication resources to map out implementation plan and oversee optimization efforts
  • Ensure proper leadership approval of all assets, while managing key touchpoints of all projects
  • Partner with leadership, key stakeholders, and marketing operations to manage all marketing budget/expense reconciliation processes and workflows, including planned vendor spends, vendor invoicing, and timely processing
Essential Skills
  • Minimum 8 years of demonstrated experience in a public relations and/or marketing communications role; inclusive of agency experience 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing and providing leadership to public relations and marketing communications professionals
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex multi-layered, highly sensitive initiatives
  • Experience with building customer storytelling programs
  • Experience leading and/or interfacing with cross-functional marketing counterparts, including brand and creative, digital marketing, data, corporate communications, and/or automation
  • Highly organized with proven expertise managing complex projects simultaneously in a multi-channel marketing environment
  • Exceptional business communication skills; able to write/speak clearly and professionally for a variety of audiences
  • Confidence to make decisions in ambiguous circumstances and to work in an evolving regulatory  environment
  • Demonstrated ability to establish credibility and rapport with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Proven people management and development skills, adept at providing frequent and valuable performance feedback to develop and build employees
  • Ability to contribute to and deliver a business plan and strategy that is in alignment with credit union and department objectives 
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, other related fields of study or equivalent experience
Location:   Hillsboro, OR 97124 | (HYBRID)
Target Compensation in Hillsboro, OR: $140k - $157,500 annually + annual bonus
