Job Summary:
The First-Year Navigator is an integral part of the Billikens’ First Chapter (BFC) team. The First-Year Navigator provides wraparound support to BFC Scholars (program participants) as they transition - personally, socially, emotionally, and academically - to life at SLU. . First-Year Navigators collaborate with campus partners to design and implement initiatives that cultivate a sense of belonging while also helping students make informed decisions about their plans for success, specifically students who identify as first-generation, BIPOC, Latino/a/x, Pell recipients, and/or students deciding on their major. Given the ever changing student demographic at SLU, it is important for the First-Year Navigator to demonstrate knowledge of, and relevant ability with, culturally diverse communities among the target and constituent populations for Billikens’ First Chapter.
Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of first-year students by supporting them as they create personal and academic plans for success, and identifying and connecting them with campus and community resources that will assist them in developing a sense of belonging
Use EAB Navigate to maintain accurate and confidential electronic records of every student interaction, including in-person, phone, and online visits
Collaborate with BFC Team and campus partners to develop, lead and/or implement academic and social programming that will meet the needs of BFC Scholars
Attend BFC team meetings and participate in department and/or University committees
Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience supporting first-year and high touch students
Work collaboratively with internal and external campus partners
Experience designing and implementing social and academic programs that promote retention, community building and, sense of belonging
Strong interpersonal/human relations skills
Strong verbal and written communications, including public speaking
Must possess analytical and organizational skills, good judgment, and initiative
Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands and deadlines
Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
Strong organizational and planning skills, attention to details
Knowledge of EAB Navigate
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's required supplemented with professional experience working within higher education. Master’s degree preferred, supplemented with two (2) years of related experience.
