Position TitleEmployment Law Counsel SrLocationNew York/1400 Broadway/114025Job SummaryThe Senior Counsel, Employment Law, will report to the Head of Employment Law as a member of the Legal Department and support Flagstar’s business operations throughout the U.S. Provide risk-based recommendations to HR on matters related to employment law by formulating advice that takes into account the Bank’s business strategy and objectives. Play a lead role in developing and executing strategic initiatives to ensure compliance of policy and business processes with U.S.-based employment law and regulations, as well as state and federal regulations applicable to financial institutions. Additionally, responsible to oversee the defense of arbitration and litigation matters as needed.Pay Range: 117K- 193KPay Range: Local Minimum Wage - $0.00 - $0.00Job Responsibilities:JOB RESPONSIBILITIES• Provide advice and counsel on a broad range of workplace law matters, including hiring and background screening; employee relations matters, workforce reductions and restructuring, corporate transactions and integration strategies, EEO and AAP obligations, whistleblower investigations and compliance, DEI initiatives, accommodation and leave practices, and disciplinary matters.• Continuously monitor for updates to federal, state and local law. Collaborate with operational leaders to ensure business practices are sufficient to meet legal requirements. Provide detailed information concerning legal obligations to stakeholders in HR and other business units.• Provide effective legal advice to Flagstar and its subsidiaries in connection with disputes with current and former employees, and independently handle investigations, prelitigation demands, negotiations, administrative charges and proceedings. Provide oversight and closely manage defense of matters by working with external counsel to develop litigation strategy in arbitration, administrative agency and court proceedings.• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements and other employment documents, policies and procedures; prepare updated templates and forms based on changes to policy or practice.• Support compliance efforts and audit processes covering employment practices, including wage and compensation issues such as job classification for overtime purposes.• Additional support to the Legal team as needed.ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES• Performs special projects, and additional duties and responsibilities as required.• Consistently adheres to regulatory and compliance policies and standards linked to the job as listed and complete required compliance trainings. Accountable to maintain compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.Required Qualifications:• J.D. Degree from an American accredited law school.• License to practice law and member of the bar in good standing, in one or more states in the United States.• 7-10 years’ experience in practice in the field of employment law, corporate/inhouse experience in financial services industry a plus.
