Production Engineer

THE ROLE

We are looking for a talented A/V Production Engineer to join our live production team. Ultimately you have the responsibility of owning the production engineering arm of our live sports streams. Technical expertise and an engineering mindset is vital to keeping our production department's technical gear up to date and maintained. This position will oversee, build and maintain our equipment inventory from fly pack kits to mobile production trailers and help determine technical strategies, proper streaming parameters, and investment in production tools. This person should be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, team oriented and results-driven environment and possesses excellent interpersonal and leadership skills in order to effectively interact with internal stakeholders and external partners alike.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design technical systems to meet the needs of our various production models, including growth in remote production (REMI) models, tools, and workflow.

  • Procurement and commissioning of new equipment; establish testing parameters for new technology; and provide executive summaries when needed.

  • Provide technical production support for facilities within the production environment and ensure equipment is operating correctly. Corrective and preventive maintenance/troubleshooting, respond to trouble calls when needed.

  • Work with the Logistics team to identify and predict end of life inventory and establish annual budget forecasting to address replacement plans.

  • Installing and configuring equipment; Handling integration and upgrade projects of various scale with external integration teams.  

  • Provide guidance and training to less experienced team members.

  • Work closely with producers for events and assist with managing crew expectations.

  • Travel to high-value remote productions to serve in an EIC capacity.

  • Maintain proper inventory of materials to support maintenance.

  • Provide consultation and remote support to high value feed partners.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Solution based critical thinker, with an engineer-centric, detailed and organized mindset

  • Familiar with broadcast signal flow and router solutions such as Ross Ultrix, Matrox and IT networking infrastructure.  Working knowledge of bonded cellular encoding solutions, including but not limited to TVU.

  • Strong understanding of multi-camera production and various software production solutions such as VMix, OBS, and ATEM production switchers. 

  • Familiarity with cloud production solutions including cloud graphics platforms such as SingularLive.  

  • Strong understanding of audio and video over IP (Dante, RTMP, SRT, Zixi)

  • Strong working knowledge of streaming encoders

  • 5+ years work history in broadcast engineering 

  • Ability to read AutoCAD design drawings and ability to use LucidChart flowchart software or similar

  • Able to work under pressure within a live production environment and its deadlines.   

  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays

  • This position is local to the Austin area reporting into 301 Congress Ave.

  • Associates or Bachelors with an emphasis in A/V digital, multimedia engineering   

  • Travel up to 30% of the year
