Food Scientist III

This unique position will support primarily our Plant-Based Food & Beverage team and will be a blend of innovation, maintaining the business needs, as well as incorporating Danone’s broader health and sustainability goals into future pipelines. The Food Scientist III role is responsible for bringing new ideas forth through ideation to concept development, while also sometimes seeing them through to commercialization. We’re looking for someone who can push our thinking on product innovations in new-to-Danone categories, but also knows how to navigate challenges that come along with developing and commercializing these.

This position will span across ideation, rapid prototyping, engaging with consumers for concept development, hands on bench work, pilot plant test work, conducting industrial tests in plants, leading industrial product launches, evaluation of analytical measurements, and the management of R&D tasks to ensure stage gate progression. The candidate must be able to represent R&I interests to internal cross functional partners, external partners, as well as inspire the business and our R&I team as to innovation opportunities to pursue.

Key Responsibilities:

• Foster innovative ideas and products in new categories beyond the current portfolio range
• Identify and pursue opportunities to incorporate Danone’s broader sustainability initiatives into new or existing products
• Use technical insight to develop formulations and processes to deliver on consumer expectations, food safety, cost, and timing requirements
• Develop and commercialize product formulas, processing procedures and raw material specifications that support business objectives
• Collaborate with our suppliers and provide technical briefs to pursue new technologies, capabilities, and novel ingredients
• Design and execute bench, pilot, and plant trials for new and improved products, analyze test results and translate these into actionable next steps
• Collaborate in the design of consumer tests, organize sample production, and ensure product quality for consumer tests
• Manage medium to high technical complexity projects according to stage gate needs

The base compensation range for this position is $85,000-107,000 commensurate with experience. Education, Experience, and Skills:

• 5-10 yrs experience with Bachelors Degree in Food Science or related field
• 3+ years of experience in dairy or plant-based preferred
• Strong technical skills on product formulation, industrial processes, ingredient functionality, and product-process interactions
• Ability to work cross-functionally and mentor teammates

• Ability to multi-task and work agilely across different product types and categories
• Strong in both strategic thinking and hands-on execution
• Self-starter that does not need to be micro-managed and comfortable with navigating ambiguity
• Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to communicate with other functions as well as general management at a senior level
• Flexibility to travel (up to 30% based on business demands)
• Proficient in product development systems and general computer skills
