Food Service Associate

The Food Service Associate position at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Northwest Houston will serve food to patients, visitors, and employees and help maintain a clean and safe environment for the customers and the food service team.

Ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of relevant food service or server experience.

Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $15.00 - Midpoint $18.75 - Maximum $22.50

KEY FUNCTIONS:

• Set up food service kitchens and café areas, checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations, may also operate cooking or bakery equipment as needed.
• Prepare or assist in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, simple bakery items, parfaits, smoothies, salad dressings, and/or other similar food items, as appropriate.
• Serve food items to customers from counters and/or steam tables and coffee beverages with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served, adding relishes and garnishes as requested.
• Take orders and deliver food trays to patients and guests following specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate diet and portions are served in accordance with room service procedures.
• Replenishes foods, beverages, silverware and trays at serving stations and nursing units as needed.
• Clean, wash and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, pots, pans, service ware, utensils, and equipment; collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropriate to the area of operation.
• Knows how to operate personal computer and utilize Microsoft Office software and programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: One year experience in a hospital, hospitality, customer service, or commercial food service operation.

Preferred: At least one year of relevant food service or server experience.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Must possess a current ServSafe Certification from the National Restaurant Association at the time of hire or obtain one within 30 days of hire and maintain a current certification throughout employment in Food & Nutrition Services.
