We are always #movingtogether.The FP Movement – Senior Designer, Performance (Studio) contributes to the overall trend and direction for designs each season for FP Movement Studio Product Categories (i.e. yoga, Pilates, spin, HIIT and other gym activities). The Sr. Designer actively participates in designing seasonal collections, supervises/mentors team members to ensure that designs and resulting product are cohesive and appropriate for the Free People Movement customer.ResponsibilitiesResearch, ideate, and design seasonal collections with flexibility across a variety of Movement apparel categories in collaboration with Design Leadership and partners within Design, Merchandising, Technical Design & Production.Recognize and accurately forecast fashion and cultural trends and understand how to translate for the FP Movement customer.Respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions.Develop and present creative ideas that express Free People’s point of view in the market to ensure end use is observed in design.Motivate, lead, develop, and coach. Provide feedback and performance evaluation to direct reports (if applicable) in accordance with Company guidelines with the goal of developing and promoting staff internally. Delegate and direct the daily activities of the assistants and junior team members, providing direction to the team.Direct new fabric and fabric technique and trim direction for cut & sew performance categories.Give compelling seasonal and line presentations with use of mocks and sketches with specific end use in mind i.e. yoga, Pilates, spin, HIIT and other gym activities.Collaborate across FP Movement team as a whole to ensure a cohesive overall assortment and be a true team player.SkillsCreative Vision: Demonstrate the vision to identify trends in their early stages and understand how to interpret the impact of fashion on FP Movement, so we can be one step ahead for the aspirational customer.Expertise in taking aspirational ideas, focusing on the key details and making them work for a broader audience in both retail and wholesale.Ability to research and report on industry trend direction, color direction, and fabric innovations approximately 9-12 months ahead of season.Effectively use Adobe Illustrator and InDesign for the CADing of design work, design packets, and presentations.Excellent communication skills to communicate ideas and inspirations to others and to interact with Designers, Buyers, Technical Designers, and other Cross Functional partners in meetings, fits, and via email.Qualifications7+ Design Experience within a performance or activewear category strongly preferred.Excellent understanding of the FP Movement customer and competitive space.Ability to articulate ideas clearly and inspire.Strong technical knowledge of studio performance and/or knit apparel construction.Strong knowledge of fabric and trims.Extensive knowledge of fabric treatments including print, pattern, fabric manipulation, embroideries, etc. as well as wash and dye techniques.Extensive knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.Ability to hand sketch and communicate design ideas via computer program.Professional Design portfolio demonstrating skill, ability, and aesthetic that aligns to the brand.Education Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design or related field preferred.Location On-site Philadelphia, PATravel Some travel may be required.Urban Outfitters, Inc. celebrates diversity and is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
