Job Posting: Full-time Lecturer in Leadership
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Department of Leadership and Counseling (LDCN) in the College of Education at Eastern Michigan University is seeking applicants for one Full-time Lecturer (non-tenure track) position in Leadership with a starting date of August 21, 2023. The FTL load is 30 credit hours per academic year (approximately 15 credit hours per semester). For the FTL load, the FTL will serve as program coordinator for the undergraduate LEADership Minor and teach in the program. Of these, some credits will be assigned towards coordination of the program, while the remainder are in instruction. Primary teaching responsibilities will be undergraduate courses for the LEAD program with the potential of teaching courses in the K12 Educational Leadership or Higher Educational/Student Affairs programs. Some courses may be offered in the evening or on Saturdays.
The Interdisciplinary LEADership Minor promotes college student leadership development by educating undergraduate students for and about leadership in a complex world. The goal of this minor is to prepare students to take leadership on critical issues in today’s society, in community, higher education, and K12 settings. Faculty and students in the minor focus on evidence-based approaches to effective leadership, examining theory, practice, and application, with critical attention to diversity, equity, and inclusion lenses. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Applicants should be able to demonstrate
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong, effective teaching skills
Knowledge of and skill with varied pedagogical methods including the use of educational software to develop curriculum, assessments, and assignments
Knowledge and ability to teach a variety of leadership courses, with expertise in the areas of the LEADership Minor.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff
Experience or potential in the area of program coordination, including the areas of program revisioning, engagement with internal and external stakeholders, and student support.
Each member of the instructional staff has the duty to deliver instruction, participate in learning outcomes assessment, and maintain a learning environment consistent with the highest standards of the profession.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Higher Education/Student Affairs, Leadership Studies or related field at the start of hire
A Master’s plus 30 or a Doctorate in an aforementioned field is preferred
Previous higher education teaching experience is preferred
Desired Qualifications
Program coordination/management experience.
Expertise/experience in K12 Educational Leadership or Higher Educational/Student Affairs.
The successful candidate will receive a yearly contract (renewable on a year-by-year basis for 2 years, then a three-year basis thereafter) and serve an eight-month appointment, with the potential for summer teaching.
