The Position:

At GameChanger we score and stream millions of youth sports games annually. We are seeking a talented Engineering Manager who is passionate about live-streaming to build out our new video engineering team. While we’ve had teams build video functionality, this full-stack, empowered team will be dedicated to video - owning our video pipeline end to end, evolving our live streaming and post-game video capabilities for users, simplifying the developer experience for product teams that are integrating video into our apps, and ensuring we have a scalable and resilient platform to handle millions of streams and hundreds of millions of highlight clips annually.

As Engineering Manager, you’ll hire and build out the team and set them up for success by setting the team’s culture, collaborating on the the vision of video within our products, influencing design/architecture principles and best practices, growing tomorrow’s leaders, and running the day to day of the team. As an excellent communicator and builder of people, you will be a leader, a mentor, and occasional hands-on developer or solutions architect and work closely with engineers, product managers, and other cross-functional roles and teams.

What You’ll Do:

  • Collaborate closely with product management and other feature teams to contribute to GC’s overall vision for video streaming technology, influence product decisions, and build video capabilities.

  • Lead the team through the designing, building, and supporting of our video capabilities, including third party device support (such as GoPro and Mevo), mobile first-party live broadcasting/capture, ingest, transcode, storage, and playback.

  • Continually measure and improve the live and VOD streaming experiences for our users.

  • Hire, onboard, and manage a highly performing video engineering team from the ground up, including mobile, back end/server, and infrastructure engineers.

  • Partner with our infrastructure teams to manage a resilient, scalable, and efficient video pipeline in AWS.

  • Collaborate with product feature teams and computer vision teams to build capabilities that enable them to easily interact with video within our clients.

  • Work with leadership peers to refine and improve our innovative engineering culture.

  • Mentor and develop team members into tomorrows technical leaders, fostering a culture of user-focus, ownership, curiosity, continuous learning, and growth.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong background in video and audio streaming, with a focus on user-generated content live streaming technologies.

  • Demonstrated success in leading engineering teams with a focus on collaboration and achieving high-quality project goals.

  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles and architectures in a resilient, scalable, and secure video cloud infrastructure (we use AWS), particularly in video streaming.

  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to the long-term vision of the engineering team.

  • Experience coding in languages used in the video space, such as Python/Go/Rust, is beneficial, as well as any other higher-level languages such as Node/Typescript, react, or mobile languages like Kotlin or Swift.

  • History of overseeing and successfully delivering projects, especially in the realm of video streaming technologies.

  • Excellent communicator able to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Up to date with industry trends and developments in video streaming technologies.

The target salary range for this position is between $200,000 and $260,000. This is part of a competitive total rewards package that includes incentive, equity, and benefits for eligible roles. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all teammate pay regularly to ensure competitive and fair pay.
