We are over 550 professionals and currently looking for a Network Performance Engineer.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Network Performance Engineer to join our team at Gcore. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, performance, and scalability of our global Content Delivery Network (CDN).

You will be responsible for monitoring and optimizing traffic, making real-time adjustments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to maintain and enhance our network and traffic management capabilities. This role requires expertise in content delivery networks and a strong background in site reliability and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and maintain highly available and scalable distributed systems to support Gcore's services.
  • Monitor and optimize global traffic, ensuring CDN cache efficiency, load distribution, and user experience through content delivery optimization.
  • Set up and manage comprehensive monitoring systems to track the health, performance, and availability of CDN infrastructure and services.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline CDN provisioning, configuration, and management, ensuring high efficiency and reliability.
  • Conduct capacity planning, performance analysis, and system tuning to optimize resource utilization and scalability of the CDN network.
  • Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR) across CDN infrastructure.
  • Work closely with software engineers, network engineers, and product managers to align CDN infrastructure and performance with business goals and user requirements.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of documentation, runbooks, and training materials to facilitate knowledge transfer and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

We Expect you to Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred, or comparable experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in systems administration, traffic management, site reliability engineering, or DevOps roles, with a strong focus on content delivery networks.

    Preference will be given to candidates with experience working at an Internet-scale company, such as a global CDN provider, managing large-scale, high-traffic infrastructures.

Technical Skills Requirements:

  • Scripting and Automation:
    • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
    • Experience developing automation tools to streamline CDN provisioning, configuration, and management.
  • Networking and CDN Technologies:
    • In-depth knowledge of CDN concepts, technologies, and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, anycast, HTTP/2, TLS, DNS, caching, traffic engineering).
    • Hands-on experience with global traffic management, global server load balancing, and routing technologies such as Cedexis. Expertise in dynamic failover strategies to ensure high availability.
  • Performance Monitoring and Telemetry:
    • Strong experience with performance telemetry, monitoring practices, and analytics tools (e.g., Real User Monitoring (RUM), Internet Measurement, Prometheus, Grafana, Conviva, Datadog, Kentik, NetFlow, New Relic).
    • Expertise in CDN performance optimization through cache efficiency and traffic analysis.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep understanding of IaC principles and tools such as Terraform and Ansible to automate and manage scalable infrastructure.
  • Cloud and Containerization: Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for deploying and managing applications.
  • Multi-CDN Practices: Experience with implementing and optimizing multi-CDN architectures to ensure redundancy and improve content delivery performance globally.

Soft Skills Requirements:

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, particularly in diagnosing and addressing network performance issues in high-traffic environments.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially working cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and legal teams.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
