We are seeking a Construction Engineer to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
Responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are executed in full conformance with the Approved Project Documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities.
Provide input during scoping, design, execution, and project closeout to ensure baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified.
Expedite project execution by identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance to the constructor through approved procedures.
Requirements
Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university and 6+ years of relevant experience or 14 years of industry experience.
Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work
Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain Q Clearance and must get HRP; Q preferred to start
Prior leadership experience
Demonstrated expert knowledge of construction engineering principles.
Demonstrated expertise in conducting field verifications of construction work to oversee, facilitate, and enforce compliance with drawings, specifications, national codes and standards.
Demonstrated expertise in collaborative problem solving to resolve facility and infrastructure engineering issues in the field as the liaison between design engineers and the constructor.
Proven ability to suggest, develop, and implement process improvements.
Demonstrated skills in multi-disciplinary team building and leadership.
Expert knowledge in developing Material Take Offs
Expert knowledge in technical codes pertaining to various disciplines ex: ASME B31, NEC, ASME AG-1, ACI, etc.
Proven experience mentoring junior Field Engineers and Engineering Technologists in their design review, pre-construction coordination, and construction oversite activities.
Proficiency in reviewing engineering submittals and ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
Advanced design and/or construction experience in nuclear, accelerator, laboratory, or industrial facility operations.
Desired Skills
Expert organizational skills for field engineering oversight and status-ing of multiple simultaneous construction projects.
CWI Certification and ASME Certification, highly desired.
Current registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable
Experienced in independently leading others in your field in the execution of their duties.
Experienced in working independently on tasks ranging in complexity.
Expert knowledge of: construction work planning and control methods; facility maintenance and installation techniques and construction principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
Proficient at reviewing field material purchase requisitions through material take-off, including the review of estimated quantities and ensuring compliance with design specifications and drawings.
Advanced understanding of engineering and construction techniques, applications of engineering and construction methods, and application of technology and tools to conventional facility operation and construction operations.
Experience with design and/or installation of facility and infrastructure systems.
Expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular construction discipline.
Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering.
Experience with Microsoft Suite or Bluebeam, preferred.
