Project Controls Specialist

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Project Controls System.

  • Perform cost estimating, analysis and control activities.

  • As delegated to, supervises and provides technical direction for cost engineering and/or planning/scheduling activities. Identifies trends for management attention.

  • Performs cost estimating, analysis, and control activities.

  • Performs schedule development, maintenance, and monitoring activities.

  • Supports project organizational and administrative activities, when delegated.

  • Supervises and provides technical direction for cost engineering and/or planning/scheduling activities, when delegated.

  • Ensures work is completed as scheduled.

  • Identifies trends for management attention.

  • Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ years of relevant experience; additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work

  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed

  • Experience in performing, monitoring, and reviewing planning and scheduling functions, including:

    • schedule development,

    • controls,

    • analysis, and

    • cost engineering functions, including cost estimating, cost control, and cost analysis, in the field and home office.

  • Knowledge of supervision, personnel administration, and training of technical and non-technical personnel.

  • Skilled in oral and written communication.

  • Proficiency in using personal computer operating systems and several basic software applications.

  • Proficiency in using multiple discipline-specific software applications currently used.

  • Experience with project budgets including cost estimating, cost control and cost analysis.

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction management customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience.

Desired Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with project controls and/or project management.

  • Experience performing project scheduling.

  • Experience implementing corrective actions.

  • Experience developing and delivering detailed and accurate status reports.

  • Knowledge of and experience with engineering functions and principles required to understand and successfully implement and monitor technical projects.

  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management System (EVMS) tools and processes.

About the Site

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
