Job Description:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform general carpentry work in construction, alteration and repair of wood and wood substitute items and structures.
Plan and complete work from initial layout to final assembly by interpreting and applying oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders.
Install, repair, and replace new doors, windows, hardware and glass.
Install flooring, floor coverings, and floor partitions.
Stain and paint unfinished wood.
Mix, pour, and finish cement.
Operate equipment such as skillsaw, tablesaw, bandsaw, drill press, jigsaw, jackhammer, demo hammer, tractor, welding, and electronic test equipment.
Install and repair ceilings and tiles. Patch broken plaster and drywall.
Erect walls, hang dry wall, and install door frames.
Operate welding equipment utilizing proper techniques.
Assist in estimating and ordering all supplies necessary to complete projects.
Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two years work experience in carpentry and welding is preferred.
Good knowledge of safe work methods and materials associated with carpentry, heating systems and welding.
Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.
Ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions, both orally and in writing.
Ability to safely operate hand tools and equipment used in carpentry, heating, and welding fields.
Must have a service orientation providing exceptional customer service to the entire PLNU community. A positive approach to work exhibited by a Can-do attitude and being a team player is essential.
Ability to lift up to 90 lbs and work with chemicals, dust and fumes

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Climbing ladders and working form heights, lifting, loading, and unloading objects up to 50 lbs; reaching overhead, above the shoulders, bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, and pass a physical exam and drug screen.
Respond to all on-call procedures. Each General Maintenance staff member is required to be “on-call “ for one week (Monday-Monday 4:30 pm-8:00 am ) once every 7-8 weeks.
