Minimum Qualifications

Essential Job Functions
The General Utility Worker will perform a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of offices, restrooms, and public areas of the Convocation Center.

Duties will include: floor maintenance of all resilient floors including stripping, refinishing, buffing, polishing and sanitizing, sanding and refinishing of wood floor; cleaning carpets, deep cycle carpet rinse extraction, bonnet/buffing system, dry foam system and spot cleaning; maintaining restroom areas in a sanitary state and replenish paper supplies and soap as necessary; cleaning windows, walls, woodwork and light fixtures; emptying trash; moving furniture; minor repairs; light bulb replacement; snow and ice removal; and other duties as required.

The George Holmes Convocation Center will provide facilities and support for the Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science and to serve as a multipurpose arena for the northwestern region of North Carolina. The center will support Appalachian State University sponsored events, trade shows, concerts, athletic events as well as other public activities.

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.
Knowledge-Technical: Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer skills such as e-mail and supply ordering. Demonstrated proficiency in service area and the ability to train and/or advise others (to acknowledge HK Leads. Arrange for repair and maintenance of equipment and machinery. Advanced skills to provide thorough inspections of all spaces. Documenting work orders when applicable.

Communication: Leads by example in overcoming communication problems in the work area.

Customer Service: Anticipates customer needs, and addresses and resolves promptly and respectfully. Represents the work area when needed to customers on matters of concern.

Interpersonal Skills: Develops and maintains effective working relationships with others in order to encourage and support communication and teamwork.

Safety and Health Compliance: Performs routine inspections servicing of tools and equipment to ensure safe operation. Recommends and follows new Safety related policies and procedures.

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
