Job Description


Wood Mackenzie are an industry-leading research and advisory company that provides analysis and insight on the world’s natural resources with offices all around the globe.

Wood Mackenzie’s Carbon Research team aspires to enable clients across the energy value chain to understand and respond to market and portfolio-related climate risks and opportunities by providing comprehensive, decision-useful carbon data and analytics. Some of the services we provide include calculation and benchmarking of emissions across the full value chain of commodities, tracking and forecasting of carbon prices, and research and reporting on carbon markets. The Carbon team is growing quickly as we help to drive the pace and scale of the energy transition and to serve different customer segments with integrated analysis.

In the Carbon team we model greenhouse gas emissions across a number of different sectors and value chains, including oil and gas, metals and mined commodities. We support clients across the energy value chain to understand and respond to market and portfolio-related climate risks and opportunities by providing comprehensive, decision-useful carbon data and analytics. Some of the services we provide include calculation and benchmarking of emissions across the full value chain of commodities, tracking and forecasting of carbon prices, and research and reporting on carbon markets.

Role Purpose

This role is at the Director level, as part of Wood Mackenzie’s global Carbon research team and reporting to the Head of Carbon Research. This is an excellent opportunity to join a strong, global team and make a major contribution to decarbonization and the energy transition at a global scale.

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced professional to lead the team and deliver on this vision via multiple strategic initiatives aligned with Wood Mackenzie’s broader vision and strategic objectives.

You will lead the work on emissions, overseeing existing offerings and working with the Head of Carbon Research to develop new offerings informed by internal strategic fit, market developments, client value, and return on investment. You will communicate with a large and varied stakeholder group, including both internal and external stakeholders at the most senior levels. You will represent Wood Mackenzie in a variety of industry fora, promoting Wood Mackenzie emissions research offerings and thought leadership and acting as an authority on our existing offering of emissions-related topics. Key aspects of the role include:

  • Defining priorities for the development of emissions offering in consultation with the Head of Carbon Research and Product lead for the Carbon Management team.
  • Work closely with the Head of Carbon Research and Product lead for the Carbon Management team to ensure a smooth, commercially beneficial transition takes place as the current Emissions products are migrated onto the Lens Platform.
  • Managing analysts working on our existing emissions offering, in line with clients’ needs and revenue growth.
  • Leading Wood Mackenzie’s emissions offering to ensure our calculation methodology remains best in class as demonstrated by the accuracy and timelines of our emissions data and analytics, including related to the Emissions Benchmarking tool.
  • Providing guidance on emissions estimation methodologies and implications for data collection and production as carbon benchmarking scope expands across additional sectors.
  • Ensuring consistency of approach across covered sectors and down the value chain.
  • Take the lead customer engagement to both ensure that the emissions products fully satisfy customer workflows as well as helping our account management team articulate their value proposition thereby maximising our revenue potential.

Main responsibilities

The Global Emissions Lead works in the Carbon Research Team, and collaborates with a broad range of research teams as well as Wood Mackenzie’s sales, marketing, data, product and consulting teams.

The role includes people management, thought leadership and content support to product development. The Global Emissions Lead is expected, in the context of Wood Mackenzie’s current emissions offering, to:

  • Drive efforts to improve credibility and accuracy of data and guarantee methodologies keep pace with evolution of global standards.
  • Identify new and innovative ways to enhance data accuracy and quality, including using advanced technologies and data analytics.
  • Manage a growing global team of 3-5 analysts who work on carbon emissions at the asset level and publish research on emissions-related topics. The team will grow as new sectors are included in the emissions calculations portfolio of Wood Mackenzie.
  • Collaborate with other Wood Mackenzie’s teams to enhance and expand emissions calculations across value chains, calibration and assessments across the value chain and to other risk metrics, leveraging each team’s expertise.
  • Engage with sector teams and clients to understand carbon-related data and analytics needs and inform strategic development of new products and solutions.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape to inform product development.
  • Engage with Sales to identify key clients for emissions products and offerings and support sales process and revenue growth.
  • Develop original thought leadership, both independently and in collaboration with other sector Research teams.
  • Represent Wood Mackenzie at internal and external conferences, as well as other industry and sustainability related fora.
  • Expand knowledge of carbon related issues impacting Wood Mackenzie clients across the organisation via Knowledge Shares, training sessions and collateral and regular input into and review of carbon-related insights, analysis and consulting projects.

Qualifications


Knowledge and experience requirement

You will be a highly autonomous self-starter, energised by a challenge, with the ability to multi-task. You are experienced working in a matrix organisation with the ability to maintain relationships across multiple functions and exert influence at the highest levels. You are dynamic, innovative and comfortable engaging with audiences and stakeholders one-on-one as well as via multiple platforms and media. You are passionate about decarbonization and want to play a role in helping clients involved in emissions-intensive industries transition to allow a low-carbon future. You will ideally have experience in the energy or extractive industries, as well as familiarity with Wood Mackenzie’s organizational structure, research products and consulting offerings. Your experience includes:

  • Expertise on a variety of emissions calculation, reporting trends and decarbonisation technologies.
  • Product or project management experience with cross-functional teams, including knowledge of product development principles and processes.
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills, with a demonstrated history of thought leadership development and delivery to diversified audiences via multiple platforms.
  • Experience leading a team, with a focus on diversity and inclusion and attention to personal growth objectives.
  • A proven ability to engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders at the highest levels in a constructive and collaborative relationship.
  • Working independently when required, identifying innovation solutions, receiving minimal guidance
