What does it mean to be a Director, Compliance and Quality Assurance at GLS?
The Director, Compliance and Quality Assurance is responsible for the development and oversight of the organization’s Compliance and Quality Assurance Programs; working closely and proactively with business partners to identify and manage operational and compliance risk in a rapid-growth company and continually evolving regulatory environment. This position will provide legal counsel on compliance matters as well as advise on the legal impact of compliance risks.
How will you drive value within the organization as a Director, Compliance and Quality Assurance?- Act as a legal resource and offer counsel on all compliance matters impacting the company; interpret and apply laws to organization’s operations and initiatives
- Advise company leaders on potential risks/impacts; understand how rules and regulations connect to business strategy; support business in determining appropriate solutions based on external rules, regulations, and industry practices
- Maintain industry knowledge and understand relevant changes in laws and regulations that may impact the company, proactively identifying potential legal risks, advising on mitigation plans and providing oversight
- Proactively assess Compliance Management System results to identify areas of legal risk warranting additional operational and compliance controls; provide integrated assessment of legal and business/ operational risk to properly prioritize possible responses; and Oversee implementation of approved responses
- Develop staffing plans and budgets for Compliance and Quality Assurance teams
- Exercise management authority concerning staffing, performance evaluations, promotions, salary recommendations, and terminations
- Set departmental goals and develop and maintain a daily employee work schedule that effectively meets the needs of the business unit and company
- Create and execute plans for the continuous buildout and expansion of the Compliance Quality Assurance, Compliance Automated Monitoring, Compliance Program, and Compliance Advisory functions that are scalable with the growth of the company
- Establish and maintain Corporate Compliance Policies for Consumer Finance rules and regulations applicable to the company
- Coordinate and participate in cross-functional teams comprised of stakeholders such as executive leadership, legal counsel, and external regulators to provide compliance guidelines to help guide business decisions
- Build collaborative relationships with business/operational leaders, and understand and support the business needs and priorities
- Develop and deliver appropriate story line to present to executives, the Enterprise Risk Committee, and board of directors on compliance priorities and results of Compliance activities that impact the business
What should you already know to be successful as a Director, Compliance and Quality Assurance?- Minimum of bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate is required
- Minimum of seven (7) years as a practicing attorney required
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a compliance role required
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in the financial industry is preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Intrinsically motivated with demonstrated ability to take initiative, identify needs, make recommendations for improvement, see recommendations through implementation, and evaluate improvements for effectiveness
- Excellent interpersonal skills: friendly and tactful with the ability to influence others, effectively manage conflict, exercise sound judgment, effectively manage highly sensitive and confidential information, interact at all levels within the organization, and build cross-functional partnerships across the business
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Team player that can adapt in a fast pace and changing environment
- Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of internet and standard business applications such as Microsoft Office; ability to quickly learn new computer applications as required
- Commitment to exemplifying the organizational core values and key competencies
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead a team - provide quality training, guidance, performance coaching, and feedback to assigned staff
- Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and demonstrated ability to effectively set and manage multiple conflicting priorities
- Demonstrated ability to establish and enhance processes to improve business results
Employment Requirements: - Must be able to work at a desk/in a seated position up to 100% of the workday
- Must be able to constantly operate a computer and other standard office equipment
- Must be able to talk and hear to exchange accurate information
- Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
- This position is full-time
- The position does require domestic travel, up to 10%
