Department Overview
The Operations Engineering team is responsible for supporting GMO’s hybrid on-premises and cloud environment. This team is responsible for the management/maintenance of the 1500 Windows Server/Linux Systems across private and public cloud, along with storage, enterprise monitoring platforms, database operations, and application issues.
Position Overview
This Technology Operations Engineer role is responsible for ensuring the availability and optimization of all systems/storage infrastructure along with monitoring platforms across the public and private cloud. The individual will provide support for various environments. The successful candidate will be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, analyze technical problems and create solutions with existing techniques and tools. The successful candidate will have the drive to work with platform engineering teams and implement automation solutions to eliminate recurring problems. An understanding of high-level infrastructure goals and the candidate’s ability to communicate those to other technology teams will be required.
Due to the global nature of the team, the candidate will also be a technical lead/point person for their geography’s working hours for all responsible technologies and will help peers field issues where necessary.
We anticipate this position being a fully remote role, with the hire covering Pacific Time Zone hours (9 am to 5 pm) Wednesday through Sunday. There may be flexibility on those specific days of the week for the right candidate and we would consider a part-time resource as well.
Requirements:
•Bachelor's degree in computer science (or a related technical field) or comparable years of experience in a technical role
•Problem solving, can-do attitude and proven skills in researching and fixing issues using resources at hand
•Demonstrated competence with analyzing, documenting, troubleshooting, administering, and evaluating: Windows Server, Active Directory, System Center Suite, CIFS filesystems, storage arrays (NetApp and Pure), and Citrix. Knowledge and administration of VMware ESX server and/or Ubuntu a plus. High level competence should be demonstrated in at least 3 of these technologies.
•Experience with Azure IaaS, PaaS, SaaS services.
•Self-direction; experience planning and accomplishing multiple simultaneous projects and goals
•Ability to spot patterns and communicate them effectively to engineering teams that will work to fix the root cause of the problem using a scalable solution.
•Basic understanding and experience with automation tools and/or orchestrators such as Azure Function Apps/Runbooks and ServiceNow
•Solid understanding of networking and distributed computing concepts, including principles of network-routing client/server applications
•Demonstrate scripting capability around systems integration and management using multiple languages such as PowerShell, JavaScript, and Python
•Experience with multiple monitoring methodologies including WMI, SSH, agent based, SNMP and push/pull concepts
•Ability to effectively interact with external parties, such as Microsoft, AT&T, or Cisco on technical matters, often requiring coordination between organizations
Preferred:
•Understanding of Linux operating systems and authentication methods including lvm, automount, recovery shell, network configuration, docker, both RedHat and Ubuntu distros, yum and apt patch management would be a plus
•Basic understanding of SQL
•Knowledge of blade and rack server hardware management
•Demonstrated proficiency with CIFS, NFS, TCP/IP, LDAP, SSH, DNS, SMTP, load balancing and troubleshooting
•Azure AZ104 Qualification or higher
